I looked around frantically while images of what might be lurking started flickering inside my mind. I got up slowly, looking for the closest thing I could use as a weapon. I ended up grabbing a lamp that my mother gave me when I moved away.
I started searching when I heard a noise coming from my kitchen. "Hello?" My voice echoed against the empty walls and shot back into my ears. Just then I heard a shattering noise that sounded like a plate breaking.  I jusmped back in surprise. I started advancing towards the kitchen door, wondering what was rooting through my stuff.
I walked slowly towards the door, slowly placing my hand on the knob and turning it with the least sound I could muster. I opened the door just a crack, trying to see if I could find anything. Since I couldn't see anything where I was I swung open the door and forced myself to go in. I looked around but couldn't find anything. I thought I was in the clear when a searing pain entered my leg. I immediately fell forward because of the pain. Letting the lamp smash to the ground. Whipping my head back to see my attacker, I met face to face with the beast.
