Amy's Point of View:
Waking up in a new place is weird at first. Sure the house that I share with three others isn't exactly a new place but I haven't been in Ethan's room a lot, Actually I think I've been in here one other time. I turn on my side and look at the little clock on Ethan's window seal. 7am. I flop back on my back knowing no one else in the house is awake yet. I close my eyes and try to fall back asleep but fail. Throwing my legs over the side of the bed and padding across the room to the door, making my way downstairs. I can already see the finger prints on the wall when you come up and down the steps but I don't really mind them, They remind me of when I was little. I try to walk quietly around the house, Not making too much noise because I know everyone is still asleep. When I make my way to the kitchen I begin to brew coffee and lean against the counter waiting for it to be done. The quiet in the house and the cool floors against my bare feet is nice, Relaxing actually. The smell of coffee quickly begins to fill the kitchen, Letting me know it's almost done. I walk over and reach for a mug in the cabinet before walking back over to the coffee maker. The green light on the oven flashes at me, getting my attention. 7:16am. I groan lightly and reach for the handle of the coffee machine before bringing it to my cup and pouring slowly. The steam goes up and reaches my face as I put the pourer back where it goes. I slide my coffee across the counter before picking it up and bringing it to my lips, making my way to the living room. "Good morning, Amy" I turn my head and look to the couch, not expecting to see my mother there. "Good morning mom" I plop beside her, careful not to spill my coffee "How'd you sleep?" I look over at her to see she's fully engaged in the TV. "Well enough" She takes a sip from her mug "I heard a lot of conversation, Two conversations actually and heard your little voice in both" I raise my eyebrows, Trying not to take my focus off the TV. "So" I find the remote sitting beside her and grab it "Fox news?" I look to her as if I've not heard a single word she's said.
"Ethan you really didn't have to do that" I slide the cup across the counter back to him. "Yea Ethan" I hear Mark from the table "You really didn't have to do that" I look to Mark and see his thumb scrolling, Probably through twitter or something. "Amy, Take the coffee" Ethan sighs and scoots the coffee back over to me, I playfully roll my eyes before giving him a nod "Thank you" I smile and he does the same. "I heard coffee" I look to the doorway and see my mom standing there with a smile on her face, examining the counter. Everyone wonders how I got so addicted to coffee, Well now you know. "I got one for you too, Mrs. Nelson" Ethan pops the coffee cup out of the travel carrier "I wasn't sure what you liked so it's just a black coffee for now but we have cream in the fridge and sugar in the cabinet" He hands off the coffee to my mom before making eye contact with me, I mouth a thank you as my mom shuffles around the kitchen trying to find the sugar. "You know Amy" I hear my mom say across the kitchen "This Ethan seems to be a very kind young man" She gives me a wink and a smirk, leaning up against the counter. I look to Ethan and his cheeks are rosy causing me to look to the floor "Mother" I breath out. "Just saying, Sweets" I see Marks shadow walk across the kitchen to the door, If he wasn't already pissed off he is now.
I decided to take my mom to the beach after our little coffee breakfast. Not only to show her how beautiful the beaches are in California but to give my mind a break, I know the only way I could do that is to leave the house. When I park the car she gets out within seconds all ready to explore. I run out and lock my car before beginning to follow her down to the beach, Staying behind her but trying not to disturb her as she absorbs it all. She finally gets down to the fluffy sand and plops down into it, I laugh and do the same. "So" I reach an arm out to the water "What do you think?" I ask smiling and looking at her. "Well" She breaths out "It's a beach" She laughs at herself and looks out into the water "In all seriousness though It's really pretty and peaceful" She gets my hand off the sand and gives it a squeeze. We continue to look out into the crashing waves and listen to the sounds around us, Completely bringing me out from everything happening back at the house. It's so peaceful I wish I could stay out here all day and not go home. I hear my mom sigh beside me, bring me out of my thoughts "We should get going" She stands and dusts the sand off her butt. "What" I look up at her "We've only been down here for like-" I dig my phone out of my pocket and press the button, looking at the time "Half and hour" I say disappointedly. "Amy look" She points to the sky above us "It's about to pour down rain" She says in a duh tone and turns, beginning to walk to my car. "Ok weather woman" I get up aggravated, Not wanting to go back home so soon.
It's been a bit since we've gotten home. I don't know where my mom went in the house exactly but I'm currently sitting at the breakfast table. I figured this is a pretty safe place at the moment because you don't have to walk through the kitchen to get to any main part of the house. The sound of the door opening and closing grabs my attention and causes me to peek my head over to look down the hallway. "Hey Ames" I hear the happy voice get closer before looking back up and seeing Kathryn. "Oh thank god it's you" I breath out "Where have you been all day? I needed a little comic relief during the coffee fiasco this morning" I walk over to the main part of the kitchen and help her unload groceries. "I heard about that" She makes eye contact with me as she puts the eggs in the fridge "Ethan said he's going to stay out until dinner and Mark refuses to talk to me so I went out to get groceries and then forgot about the groceries so they've been traveling with me all day" She throws the plastic bag in the trash bin "But it's fine" She shrugs and leans against the counter. I look to the milk in my hand "Yep" I nod my head "Fine" I stifle a laugh, closing the refrigerator door. "I took it upon myself to make mom approved dinner" She shrugs again "For obvious reasons". I smile at her, leaning against the counter myself "Thank you Kathryn" I try to keep my voice quiet, My mother heard me from three doors down theres no telling what else she could pick up. "Anyways" She stops leaning against the counter and looks at me from across the kitchen "I should get started. Want to help?" He brings her hands together making a slight clap noise. "It's the least I can do" I stop leaning against the counter, Ready to follow her instructions.
It was a little difficult to gather everyone up to eat dinner. He had to threaten to break one of the offices cameras to get Mark out of his room, Well I didn't, Kathryn did that part. Ethan was slightly easier but you could tell how awkward he was feeling to be sitting around the table with all of us together. "Kathryn made this mom" I place her meal in front of her "But I helped" I smile and stands beside her for a few seconds. "I'm surprised it's not burnt" She laughs and looks around the table to see no one join in with her. I let my head fall back for a slight second before picking it back up. Ethan must have noticed no one was laughing and decided to force a laugh making the entire situation even more awkward. I lightly hit the back f his head as I walk behind him making my way to the kitchen and grabbing my plate of food. "Anyways" I say walking back to the table "I hope you like it" I purposefully sit beside Kathryn instead of Mark this time. I don't know if this was a better or poorer choice because now he's sitting across from me. "All the ingredients are organic, Mrs. Nelson" Kathryn breaks the silence. "I can taste that freshness" She puts her hand over her mouth as she talks "You did such a great job Kathryn" I see my mom give Kathryn a nod. "I helped" I say as I put a forkful of sale in my mouth. "Yes" I hear Ethan say "And it's not burnt so good job" I raise one shoulder up slightly and laugh causing everyone else to laugh, Well almost everyone else. "You can't burn salad" I take another forkful. "I wouldn't be surprised with you" Ethan and my mom say at the same time. I slide down in my seat, pretending to be embarrassed while everyone laughs.
Dinner was a success. Ethan got out of being uncomfortable and Kathryn broke the ice multiple times while no one else did. Marks still mad at me and I know I'm in the wrong so I'm going to give him a few days before talking to him again. "Ready to hit the hay?" Kathryn asks as she sets the dishrag on the edge of the sink. I nod and throw the dirty paper towel in the trash bin. Kathryn goes up first and I stay down a bit longer to make sure all the doors are locked and the lights are out. It doesn't take that long but I give everything one last check before making my way up the stairs. Once I get to the top of the steps everyone's doors are closed and the only light I see on is the bathroom light that we keep on 24/7 as a nightlight. I make my way to Ethan's door before lightly knocking twice. It takes a few seconds but he opens it and lets me in.
"I promise this is only temporary" I sit up in his bed and he shuffles around the room getting everything he needs for the night. "Stay as long as you need" He takes a pause from searching and looks to me "The couch downstairs is surprising comfy, Even if I do have to make sorry excuses to your mother as to why I'm sleeping down there" He laughs and I do too. "Thank you again" I say as I see him make his way to his door. He gives me a nod before letting himself out and closing the door behind him.
