After everyone settles down and gets caught up, Jess walks up to me.

"Can we talk?"

I nod.

We walk out of the diner and instinctively head for the bridge. We sit down and don't say anything for a few minutes.

Then Jess starts. "So, Logan?", he says trying to maintain eye contact.

"He sends a check once a month, and that's it. We haven't spoken face to face since before Beth was born."

Jess looks up, "He's never met his daughter?"

I shake my head. "No, he thought it would be better this way."

Jess, visibly agitated, stays quiet.

"How's the Truncheon?", I ask changing the topic.

"Good. Matt got married and moved to the West Coast, so Chris and I are looking for a new partner to take his place. But we are still turning a profit. How's the newspaper?"

"Taylor has finally let me update it.  I tried to cut the poem again, but that didn't go well.  I settled on picking a new one. Everyone seems to like it.," I pause. "I've missed you, Jess.  I've missed being friends."

"Me too."
