Dark Paths (Bughead)

chapter 4

At the Southside...

BettyPOV: The Southside was  dark,creepy and everyone moved in sync. It was like one of those weird movie towns where everything bad happens. Why would people wanna live here? Is this where all the unwanted or outcasts go?  Not that Jughead was any of those!  but he's just not himself right now. I mean how does one even live a day here? I've only been here for less then 15 minutes and I have shivers and tingles running up and down my spine. I look away and back into the car when i felt the car stop.

Betty:Ronnie why'd we stop?

Veronica: cause we can't keep driving everywhere all over town when we don't know where were going and if we run our of gas, the nearest gas station is like 10 miles from here

Archie: we should go check the bar and I know where it is exactly so Ronnie start the car again  and keep driving while i give directions

Veronica: okay Arch if your sure

Veronica said restarting the car and kept driving till Archie told her where to go and eventually  we arrive

My heart started pounding. I felt a large lump in the back of my throat swallowing it harshly. sounding like a loud gulp.

I sighed stepping out of the car as my eyes were dead straight on the frightening sight in front of me that I was about to witness.

There  was no turning back as me,Archie,and Veronica started walking further and further away from the car.

Once we stepped inside it was all an eerie sight. All you could hear was bottles of beers clanking and hard pool balls clanking on the wooden pool stands.

I looked around seeing a bunch of freakish people mostly men but no sign of the serpents or Jughead.

Betty: Archie i don't see any serpents or Jughead

Archie: they gotta be in the back or upstairs

Betty: how about you take the back and Veronica and I will take the stairs

Veronica: Betty should we really let Archie go alone? I mean the serpents could snap him like a twig less then a second

Betty: we gotta do this

Veronica: Well I'm not leaving him to die alone

Betty: fine then I'll go alone upstairs

Veronica: be careful

Betty: gee thanks for leaving me to die alone

I snicker of annoyance quielty and walk away towards the stairs. Slowly pulling out my gun from my back pocket. 

Yes my mom did take this away from me but i found it in her undergarments drawer.  It was treacherous but I had to take it for my own safety.

Slowly one by one i reached the top of the steps taking one last look behind me and inhaling a sharp quick breath of what could be my last breath before I'm dead.

I aggressively force my feet  to walk and keep head on straight till I see some of them. Those glossy, classical black leather jackets with frays and the green snake on the back. It was no other then the serpents themselves. 

I braced myself for what was coming next while holding my gun tightly by my side under my little black leather vest approaching one of the serpents.

Betty: Hey!

One of them heard me and turned around. I eternally screeched as their vicious snake eyes glare at me so cold and threatening.  It then spoke

Serpent: What do you want!

It roared at me and I almost started shaking

Betty: Have you or any of the other serpents seen Jughead Jones creeping around?

Serpent: you mean the bosses son?

Betty: yeah that's the one

Serpent: you just missed him

Betty: well where is he?!

Serpent: i dont know but he and 5 other guys  said  something about  taking out the trash

Betty: uh okay? Where might that be?

Serpent: I've said enough already

Betty: please I'm begging you,Jughead is my boyfriend and i just wanna know he's okay

Serpent: I've said all i can

Betty: well thanks for nothing

Serpent: There are rules and I have to obey them so goodbye now

The serpent rudely disregarded my response and left

I growled stomping out and back downstairs and out the doors.  Waking around the backside peering straight outwards looking for clues when i hear screaming.

I run back inside quick to see Veronica on her hands and knees as another serpent had a gun pointed at her and Archie was beinf restrained.

Betty: Back off them!

I shout holding out my gun and glaring into their pitch black eyes

Another serpent: and what if i dont?

Betty: look were just here to find the bosses son that's it

Another serpent: well he ain't here

Betty: i know cause someone said he and others left to go take out the trash

Another serpent: yeah "the trash"

Betty: What is that supposed to mean!

Another serpent: look with FP behind bars it's up to his son to finish the jobs his dad didn't finish

Betty: i will ask one more time and not again! WHERE IS JUGHEAD!!

at this point my nails were swimming in a pool of blood in my palms

Another Serpent: Somewhere near South Boulevard Road that's all I'm saying so you'll shut up

Betty:WELL IT TOOK YOU LONG ENOUGH NO2 DROP MY FRIENDS AND WE'LL BE GONE!

They shoved Archie and let go of Veronica. I helped her up and the three of us walk out back to the car

Betty: are you guys okay?

Archie: we didn't find Jughead

Veronica: thanks for saving us

Betty: i got clues to where he might be but I'm not certain

Veronica: what did they say?

Betty: that Jughead and some other serpents had to take out the trash and are somewhere near South Boulevard Road

Veronica: then that's where were going well wherever it is maybe the GPS will tell  me

Veronica said putting it in

Archie:wait! What if it's a trap!

Betty: well were gonna have to try and not get trapped

Veronica pulls out and they drive off...
