The Corner Cafe [Connor Ball]

Chapter Thirty-One

-Kylie's POV-

I was cleaning the table when the bell on the door rang. I turned around and my family strolled in, bright smiles on their faces.

"Welcome to The Corner Cafe!" Joanne greeted them as they looked around the place.

"Wow, this place looks really nice and comfy." my mum complimented, taking pictures with her phone.

Joanne led the family to a table near the window where you can see the clear view of the street.

It's almost noon, meaning the busy lunch hours are about to start soon.

"Kylie, you can serve your family." Joanne came over to the table I was cleaning and ushered me towards my family. Their smiles widened as I walked towards them and Celia ran out of her seat and rushed to hug me. I kneeled down to her height and hugged her tightly.

"Hello, sis." I giggled and poked her chubby cheeks.

"Hello Kylie!" she sung. I placed her on my hips and continue walking towards the table, sitting her back on her seat.

I handed them the menu, "Joanne said you are welcomed to order anything for free."

Their heads immediately turned to where Joanne was standing by the cashier, smiling at us. "We can't, that's too much." my dad said, shaking his hands.

"It's alright, Kylie has helped out a lot when she was here." Jacques said, walking out from the kitchen area and waving at my family.

"Thank you so much!" my parents thanked in unison.

"Kylie?" Celia called, "can I have a cup of hot chocolate with extra whipped cream and marshmallows on top please?"

"Anything for my baby sister." I kissed her forehead.

"We'll have a cup of hot coffee and a cup of English Breakfast tea please, dear. We'll order the food later." my mum said and I nodded, heading back to the kitchen to make their orders.

"Here's your English breakfast, dad. Egg salad sandwich for you, mum. And last but not least, chocolate chip pancakes for Celia." I placed their food in front of them and they thanked me before quickly digging in.

"These tastes lovely!" my dad said while chewing, giving a thumbs up to Joanne who was standing next to me.

"Glad that you love it." Joanne smiled down at Celia who was cutting her pancakes.

"We've gotta get back to work now, enjoy!" I told them and walked away, beginning to serve the hungry business men and women from the offices nearby.

Today is definitely a very busy day. The busy lunch hour didn't start to end until 3:30 in the afternoon. My dad finished his meal and had to return to work at 1, my sister and my mum stayed here until now.

"Thank you so much for the delicious food, Joanne." my mum and Joanne gave each other a peck on the cheek politely before my mum picked up a sleepy Celia.

"Come again soon." Jacques said and shook hands with my mum.

I stood by the counter, watching them exchange their goodbyes before my mum walked towards me, smiling.

"I'm so proud of you, Kylie." she said, her eyes swelling up with tears that's threatening to fall.

"Don't cry, mum, you're gonna make me wanna cry too." both of us laughed. I pulled her into a hug, Celia in between the two of us.

"I'll see you soon, mum." I smiled again as she walks out the cafe, waving at a cab before stepping in. I waved as the cab drove away from the busy street.
