Chapter Thirty-Six

-James' POV-

After we agreed to meet up again later on for dinner, Nicole grabbed my forearm and pulled me towards the penguins house without even asking me. I tried to turn around and wave goodbye to the other couple, only to realise that they've already started walking to the opposite direction.

I looked back at Nicole and accidentally bumped into her small body as she suddenly stopped. She started to blush and slowly loosen her grip on my arm.

"What's wrong?"

"Sorry for pulling you, I got too carried away." she answered shyly.

I smirked, "it's alright, I didn't mind." I slowly took her hands and wrapped our fingers together, smiling cheekily.

She was shocked at my action for a few moments before snapping out of her thoughts and blushing furiously, but didn't let go.

We walked around the aquarium hand in hand, swinging it like little kids. She giggled at our childish behaviour but said nothing. The sun is setting soon, meaning it's almost time we have to meet up with the other couple.

"Do you wanna go watch the Dolphin show before we leave?" I asked her as we neared the venue. She nodded.

The venue was almost full when we got in, and I found two empty seats at the left side of the venue. I sat next to a family of three while Nicole sat next to a guy who looked a year or two older than us.

When the show began, I didn't notice anything wrong; but halfway through the show, Nicole started shifting closer to my side uncomfortably.

"You alright?" I asked with concern. She shook her head and glared at the guy sitting next to her. He had his arm over the back of Nicole's chair and was smirking.

I glared at him before putting my arm around her shoulder. The guy continued to smirk and started to lean towards Nicole's side.

"What the hell man? Stop disturbing my girlfriend!" I snapped, annoyed because of his actions. He looked at me with a shocked expression before his face reddened with embarrassment, knowing that he was caught red handed.

He held both of this hands up, "Sorry, didn't know she's your girlfriend."

I glared at him once more before pulling Nicole onto my lap. She was tense at first, but slowly relaxed.

"So now I'm your girlfriend, eh?" Nicole teased with a tint of blush on her cheek.

"I didn't mean it that way, it was nothing! I was just trying to protect you from that perverted guy." I blurted out before I could stop myself.

She stopped walking and I gave her a questioning look. Her eyes were filled with tears that would fall any moment. She looked hurt, angry, rejected.

"Oh." she whispered before pulling her hand out of mine.

"No no no, I wasn't trying to say that the 'you're my girlfriend' part was nothing, I'm just saying that I didn't mean to say it that way without your permission but because of the situation just now I didn't know what to say other than that. I'm sorry." I gushed.

"Oh." she said once again, but this time with a small smile on her face.

"Forgive me please?" I said, holding both of her hands in mine.

"Hm, I'll think about it." she teased.

"Fine, don't forgive me! Do whatever you want!" I said dramatically and let go of her hand. But not even one second later, she held my large hands in her smaller ones.

"You're such an idiot! I forgive you." she giggled.

I smiled at pulled her into a hug and sniffed her, she smells like strawberries.

"Did you just sniff me, McVey?" she asked with amusement in her voice.

"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't."

She tried to slap my back, thinking I don't know because I'm hugging her, but I caught her arm mid-air. She struggled to pull her arm out of my hold and huffed playfully. "Let me go, stupid."

"I'll never let you go, Nic." I tightened my grip on her wrist, but not too tight that I'll hurt her.

"Done cuddling yet, lovebirds?" someone asked, Nicole tried to push me away but I kept her body close to mine.

"Obviously not." I laughed, Connor and Kylie looking at us with smirks on their faces.

"Let me go, or I'll knee you where the sun won't shine." Nicole threatened. I didn't react and she kneed me where it would hurt the most. I immediately let her go and grabbed my private part, groaning in pain. "What the hell Nic?!" I roared and fell on the floor, sweating.

The three of them being good friends they are, stood there laughing their butts off, not even offering a hand to help me up. Kylie was clinging onto Connor, struggling to stand while laughing so hard. Nicole kept jumping while laughing, looking high and stuff. Connor was trying to calm down but just one look at my face sends him back to his laughing fit.

"You hate you guys so much." I muttered.

Nicole pulled out her puppy face, "I'm sure you hate me, otherwise you wouldn't have asked me out."

This sent them into another wave of laughter, but this time adding my blush into the situation.
