Chapter twenty nine: Journey home

Eren's POV:

I woke peacefully, no one poking me awake, no one shouting.

...It was nice.

I sat up on my elbows and looked around.

Levi had gotten up from his previous position on the bed, he held one hand on his lower back, rubbing there.

He winced at a painful spot as he looked out into the centre of the fire pit.

"What's wrong?"

"My backs playing up a bit, I'm fine though."

I replaced his hand with mine and started gently massaging it into his spine. He sighed happily but continued staring out of the entrance.

"Searching for something?"

"Just watching, can't be too careful..."

I was happy he was taking this seriously, one wrong move and we could easily be dead.

"Whilst you were asleep the doctor came around..." Levi informed.

"Oh yeah?"

"Hm, he checked on the pups, they're ok. He says you can hear their heartbeats, says they're quite loud as well..."

Without even thinking I lifted his top and knelt down, pressed an ear to his tummy and silenced him from speaking.

And sure enough, the little thumps were heard. "Can't you hear them?"

He shook his head. "I can't hear them but I can feel them." He placed his hand onto his bump and closed his eyes tightly.

"They're beating so fast..."

I looked at my mate in awe, he has changed so much since we first met...

"Are you happy?" He opened his eyes at my voice and then smiled.

"Extremely happy..." He cupped my face and ran a thumb across my cheek.

"We're having our own family Eren, why wouldn't I be happy?"

"I just don't want you to be stressed, not whilst carrying the pups."

"I'm fine, plus, I can trust you to protect me, right?"

"Of course, I lo-"

A shout from the outside of the tent interrupted me, I grumbled in frustration.

The same big blonde alpha that tied me up came running into the hut along with the Pack leader himself.

"Eren, it's Rose!"

I got up from my kneeling position and straightened up my stance, growling quietly.

"What about it..."

"I-it's under attack!" Nile panted.

A violent shudder ripped through me, making me growl louder.

How could this happen!

I needed to get there straight away!

I couldn't go without Levi, I couldn't leave him here...

I turned to my mate who had the same shocked expression as I did.

"W-what do you mean it's under attack?!" He shook.

"Large Alphas are storming through your territory as we speak..."

I grabbed Levi's hand and ran past the two other men, sprinting to the carriage that took us here and I pushing Levi swiftly inside, seating him down.

"Go as fast as you can, we need to get to Rose immediately!" I informed the elderly alpha controlling the reins and got in along side Levi, shaking slightly.

"W-what about Wolfe, we prom-" Levi panicked, over thinking things.

"Our Pack is under attack without us Levi, we can grab Wolfe later, we're not breaking his promise. Don't worry."

"You could go to Rose and I could go to Wolfe?"

"Levi... the omegas in Rose need you, you're their hero right now, encourage them!"

He nodded, accepting the fact we probably wouldn't see our pup for a while...

"I promise we'll get him as soon as this is over. We need to comfort our Pack right now."

"I understand..."

The carriage took off, leaving Niles Pack behind.

"Can we go straight back home when we get Wolfe... I don't want to go back there, I don't trust that Pack at all..."

"You'll be quite pregnant by then, I doubt you'll be able to stand, let alone get into the carriage. You're not going anywhere."

He breathed out a sigh of relief, running a hand over his stomach as the carriage bumped from side to side from the rocky path.

"It'll take at least a few hours until we get there, try to sleep." I stroked his head, making him lean into my chest.

"I'm not tired, I'm worried..."

I sighed. "Levi, it's gonna be a rough day. I'm worried about you and the pups..."

At the mention of the pups the omega began to tear up.

"I want Wolfe..."

I felt for my Omega, I really did, but I needed to help my Pack...
I knew Wolfe was in safe hands with Hanji so I wouldn't panic in front of him.

"Levi, the Pack needs us, we're their leaders, they're trusting us with their safety, we need to keep them safe."

"I know, it's just- not having my pup here is killing me!"

"Hanji is taking good care of him, he'll be absolutely fine."

"I believe you..." Levi leant up and placed a quick kiss to my cheek.

"I'm just so scared." He leaned back into me, snuggling to get closer.

"I'll always protect you, even you said so earlier."

"I'll protect you too!" He shouted back, determined to be as equal as me even whilst he was pregnant.

I laughed but allowed him to sway himself to sleep under my arm.

We had a long journey ahead of us after all.
