Song: Secrets by Jacob Lee

//

The school day drags on longer than normally. My thoughts are over taken by Kaleb Nixon. He was taking me out tonight: our first real date. I was extremely nervous, a different nervous than I'd been before Bash and I's date. I don't know why I'm nervous, I've hung out alone with Kaleb plenty of times. Tonight was different though. I don't know what Kaleb considers us, but we're definitely not enemies anymore. We were never actually enemies though.

"What's on your mind?" Adam's voice interrupts my thoughts as we walk through the empty hallway. There's only ten minutes until the bell rings to let every out of school. My fingers are absentmindedly staring down at my phone, waiting for a text from a certain someone.

I turn my attention to my friend, "Nothing, why?"

"You seemed distracted today." He shrugs. We stop at my locker and he watches as I return my books to their shelves. Adam sighs. "Does it have something to do with Kale, by any chance? The rumor is that he drove you to school this morning. Someone even said they saw you kissing at your locker. I told them that they must be blind."

I roll my eyes, knowing exactly what Adam thinks of Kaleb. It's the opinion of the whole student body of Arden Prep actually. They thought he was a typical bad-boy, not that they were exactly wrong, but he was a lot more than that. "It's not a rumor, Adam, sorry."

Adam doesn't speak for a moment, doesn't even move. He stares at me with wide eyes and a clenched jaw.

"Breathe." I tease.

"You rode here, alone, with Kaleb Nixon?" Adam questions.

"Did you hear the part where he kissed me?" I laugh.

"I can't believe this is happening." He groans.

"He's a good guy, Adam. I promise. You just need to get to know him." I defend.

"No, I don't. I know exactly who Kale is. I've known him since freshmen year. He was the same person then as he is now. He's a bad guy, Greer. He's a jerk and he's mean. He doesn't care about any one but himself."

"It's not always that black and white, Adam." I shake my head.

"You're kidding me, right?" He scoffs. "No offense, but you've been in Arden prep for only like a month. I've been here since I was a kid. I've known Kale a lot longer than you have. It is as black and white as that."

I stare at him a moment, unable to think of anything to say to him. I don't want to fight with him and it's obvious that he's already made up his mind. I don't think there was any thing that could change his opinion of Kaleb.

Adam sighs, "I'm sorry, Greer. I didn't mean to come across mean like that. It's just that, I think you're making a terrible mistake here. I know Kale, trust me on this one. He's going to break your heart."
