They got out one of Adam's Book of Symbols. Tyler mentioned that his had all burned in the trailer fire. Samantha did have memory of that awful event having happened and shot him a semi-sympathetic look. "Things might have been a lot different," she said.

"Yeah, but not necessarily better," Tyler answered.

Adam flipped to the page with the symbol he was looking for. There were many symbols that were similar. Some that would require the wearer to reveal the whole truth voluntarily, some involuntarily, and everything in between. "I think we need the one that just doesn't allow you to lie. Also, it should only be active for a short period of time. Lord only knows when we will have to lie again." Adam grinned at the small group, appreciating his own humour.

Sonya rolled her eyes. "Yes, Heaven forbid we have to tell the truth for too long." Samantha smiled at her. She could appreciate lies. Sometimes they were necessary. She understood that.

"Looks like that one would do the trick," Sam said pointing. They all agreed on a symbol and got out their Stylos. "Where do we put them?"

"Anywhere would work. Let's just do our forearms. We can each do one, and then chat. The symbols should last for about five minutes," said Tyler. They all agreed and took turns drawing the symbol on each other while everyone else watched. "Okay, who wants to go first?"

"I do," they all said.

"Okay, Tyler, do you love me?" asked Samantha. No time to waste, she thought with satisfaction.

"Yes. Do you love me?" It was a burning question for Tyler. He'd already said it to her. She'd never returned the words.

"Yes. But I'm also afraid to be hurt. I've seen many marriages fall apart and it scares me to be in love. But yes, I love you, Tyler." He didn't know if he had enough room on his face for his smile.

"Do I look as ridiculousas I feel?" he asked.

"Yes," they all replied with a laugh. He couldn't believe it when he felt his face stretch even further.

"Do any of you mean me any harm?" Samantha asked. They all responded in the negative. "Are any of you spying on me?"

"Sonya and I are assigned by the Council to watch over you and protect you."

"I am assigned to protect you," answered Tyler. Samantha turned her focus to Adam.

"Who assigned you?"

"Lilith," he responded.

"Have you reported back already?"

"Not yet," he replied.

"What will you say when you report back?"
