Samantha looked at Killian and Michael with surprise. They were being contained in a circle surrounded by Witchfolk. She could tell that the Witchfolk were very focused on the task before them. Occasionally one Witchfolk was replaced by another. They kept the circle going. She looked to Tyler, "What do you suppose they're all doing?" she asked.
"It looks like they suspect something is wrong with these two. They must suspect treason or something thereof," said Tyler.
"Not these two. They have been close to me. Given me advice. Helped when it was needed. I can't believe that they have deceived me."
"Don't be offended, Samantha. They are very good at what they do. They deceive and kill and cause harm all of the time. It's their thing. You wouldn't be the first one they've tricked, and you won't be the last," soothed Tyler.
"Don't. Don't try to make me feel better, Tyler. I do not believe they're guilty of whatever it is the Witchfolk think they've done." Samantha felt her temper flare. Tyler noted the storm brewing in her eyes. How can she not see what is so obvious to me? he wondered.
He watched as Lilith approached with Doug at her side. "They came waltzing in here like nothing had happened," she said with one eye-brow raised haughtily.
"Did you stop to think that maybe that's because they haven't done anything wrong?" demanded Samantha. She glared at Lilith.
Lilith's head jerked back as it she'd been slapped. "We're just trying to help," she said in surprise.
"Helping by antagonizing the leaders of the Freefolk? You think that's helpful?" Samantha's voice rose louder with each word.
"Now, Samantha," started Doug. He had also noticed the change in her eyes and he would freely admit that it made him quite nervous. "They walked in looking very smug. Something was not right with them. They have been missing for a few days now. Killian hasn't been seen in the World of Light since before the attack in the Human World. Michael hasn't been seen since we all went out trying to stop the slaughter. The way they entered the World was very suspicious."
"Have you questioned them?" asked Tyler.
"We have, but they won't answer any questions."
"Have you put a symbol on them to help?" asked Samantha.
"Quite frankly, they are quite powerful. Putting a symbol on them against their will would be quite a challenge. One that we may lose. We thought it best to contain them until you arrived," reasoned Doug.
"They have refused to say anything? I wonder why?" said Samantha.
"Because they're guilty, that's why," answered Lilith looking down her nose.
"You don't know when to quit, do you?" asked Samantha with a hard glare. Lilith suddenly gripped her throat. She made an obvious attempt to say something, but she appeared to be unable to utter a word. "Oh, that's better," Samantha smiled. "Much better... sometimes it's better to leave the air unfilled, Lilith. Maybe you can try it out for a few minutes."
