"You know what secret she was keeping?" I ask him
"Yes" he nods sadly "she's been gone for two long and I'm worried about her and I know she cares about all of you so here it goes" he sighs and closes his eyes "I met Daisy at the end of her sophomore year" he starts off
"Where?"
"Where I work" he fidgets in his chair
"And where do you work?"
"At the hospital" he tells me and looks at me sadly
"Did she volunteer there or something?" I say not understanding
He shakes his head "no she was a patient of mine"
I open my mouth and then close it again not knowing what he's really saying "a patient?"
"She didn't want anyone to know. The only ones that know is her parents. She was sick" he finally gets out
"No she isn't" I shake my head not believing it
"I'm sorry but it's true. The last couple of months it's been getting worse and" he stops but I know. She doesn't have a lot of time left
"But you can help her right?" I say to him because there has to be a way
"I'm sorry" he shakes his head
"So that's why she was always so secretive" I say out loud
"She didn't want anyone to know and worry about her. So when she had doctors appointments she would make up excuses and when some days she wasn't feeling that great she would just say she was on vacation or something"
"Do the police know all of this?"
"Yes" he nods
"I can't believe this" I shake my head and try my best not to cry "do you have any idea where she could be?"
"No, but I wouldn't be surprised if she had runaway not wanting everyone to see her so sick" he says sadly and I can see he's holding back tears as well
His phone dings and I watch him get it out of his pocket and look at whoever texted him. He sighs and looks at me "I'm sorry there a work emergency, but you have my number your welcome to call me" he gives me a small smile and I try my best to give him one back but it's shaky
He stands up and puts a hand on my shoulder in a comforting way. "I'm really sorry but she cared a lot about you and your friends I hope you know that"
I can't even talk so I nod in response and watch him leave.
