Our missing friend

Chapter 67

The closer we get to the cabin the quieter the car gets. I can tell everyone's mind is racing all thinking different things.

As I look outside the car window, we are in the middle of no where. None of us has any signal and there's no other cars or even houses in sight.

"Why would she come to the lake house of all places?" Ruby talks for the first time in about 2 hours "that place is a wreck and she's only been there maybe twice when she was like 6 or 7" she does have a point

"I remember it. It was a totally disaster but we had fun somehow" Trevor smiles at the memories

"I wonder why we are the first ones to think she could be there?" Felix asks out loud

"Because like they said it's a wreck not even live able and she only went there once or twice so no one would expect her to go there. They all probably forgot about the place." I say and crossing my fingers that she's there and okay

I look over at the gps and see we will be there in less than 5 mins. I've never been this scared in my life, I don't know what I'm going to walk into. She could be there and actually wants to come back home with us or she not there and never was, and the one I'm trying my hardest not to think able is that she is there but we are too late.

We pull up in a long drive way and I look straight ahead and see it, the lake house. Even from the outside it looks abandon.

"Moment of truth" Ruby says and I can tell she's holding back tears

"Whatever happened I love you guys" I say with tears forming in my eyes as well

We all open our car doors and look at each other. We all slowly start walking to the cabin. Felix grabs my hand and gives it a squeeze.

We all look at the front door, no one wanting to knock still scared of what's inside. I take a deep breath and try to open the door to see if it's unlocked. "Nope" I sigh when I realized it is locked

"Just knock" Trevor says looking like he's about to pass out

I slowly bring my hand up to the door and knock.

"I guess we wait" I say and we stand there but no one hears anything inside

"Maybe she isn't here" Felix says dissapionted

"No I'm not leaving until I get in this house even if I have to break a window" I say determined

"Okay before we do that why don't we see if there's a key hidden" Ruby says being the smart one

We all start looking around the porch for a spare key.

"You find anything?" Felix asks Trevor

"Nope Ruby?" Trevor asks Ruby

"No Hazel?" She asks me

"No-" I start saying but then stop when I realize I have a key on my necklace "hey guys?" I turn to them "remember in the box there was a random key in there?" I say and take a gulp

"Yeah?" Trevor says still a little confused

I take the necklace off my neck and hold it in my hand "it might not even be for this house but it's worth a try"

I take the key and slowly bring it up to the lock and push it through hoping and praying it will fit. "It fits" I smile, I look back at them one more time, all of them are giving me a small smile of encouragement. I turn the key until I hear a click which makes me jump.

"It actually worked" Ruby says shocked

I push open the door and watch as it opens to reveal the cabin. No one moves from our spot on the porch

"There's no way she's here" Felix shakes his head and I'm thinking the same because this place needs to be burned to the ground it's horrible and scary. I feel like I'm in a horror movie.

I take a step inside and they follow me.
