Acceptance doesn't mean resignation; it means understanding that something is what it is and that there's got to be a way through it.

" Ya Ahmad!" Nusaiba called.

I doubled my pace towards the garden but I heard her running and I knew I was done for.

"Haba Ya Ahmad! I have been calling you since," She said making a dramatic gesture.

"Naam Baby, what is it?" I asked as naturally as I could.

If she had the slightest idea that I had been avoiding her, she would have pestered me for the rest of the day.

Nusaiba was my cousin but she had lived with us ever since she was six years old. I still consider her a little girl because she's just twenty two, two years younger than Haneefah. She was so adorable and likable, you just can't hate her.

"Ya I heard the bad news, I am so sorry!" She said with a frown.

Even little Nusaiba was against the issue.
How then could my wise parents come up with such an absurdity?

"Thank you Nusaiba!"

I was grateful that someone was on my side. I had called Haneefah right after Mammy blackmailed me -emotional blackmail to be precise -hoping she would take my side but the fool was ecstatic! How could she be happy over my misfortune?

"But Ya Ahmad, is there really no way out?" She asked.

"Nusaiba one does not argue with his parents and don't forget that the elders are blessed with foresight," I replied but it was mostly directed at myself.

Ever since Mammy told me, I had tried to make mental notes to make myself accept fate. I only wished I could be as strong as I appeared to be.

"Hmm Ya Ahmad!"

I knew she was probably thinking that I didn't try hard enough to wriggle out of the situation. What did she know?

There were consultations, proposals, offers, favours and commands. The marriage was a crystal clear order and there was no room for negotiations.

I had remained in the garden after Nusaiba left. I needed to clear my head. Unfortunately, nothing fruitful came out of my seclusion.
