The Modibbo mansion was pin drop silent. Their footsteps reverberated in Ahmad's ears. The live orchestra featuring his heart beat did not make matters easier. Every step he took, he anticipated the outcome of the leaked pictures.

How did they come across the pictures?

Rukkayya had asked that same question when he told her. Although that wasn't the most pressing issue at hand. Hands shaking, Ahmad led the way in to his parents house. They walked pass the reception - a well furnished room where they mostly received guests - in to the main living room where they met Haneefah chewing her fingers, her face stiff with tension. She rises quickly on seeing them. However before either of them could ask her anything, Mammy, chest thrust out ascended the stairs.

"I see the double agent has arrived," She spews. Each word laced with venom.

Ahmad swallows. He stays glued to carpet in the centre of the living room, his heart racing.

"Mam--

The sound that followed was a loud clap, another follows immediately. Ahmad staggers backwards clutching his face which stung from the smack.

"Don't you dare call me!" She thunders. "I haven't even started with you. Go upstairs, your father is waiting for you."

Chin dipping to his chest, Ahmad took the stairs dreading what awaits him. Mammy followed him up disregarding the two left behind.

Rukkayya wraps her trembling arms around herself. "Its about the pictures right? By Allah I kept them well hidden, somewhere I'm sure no one can find.  How did they come across them?"

Haneefah shook her head. "I have no idea."

Eyes tearing up, she trails on. "We have already resolved it. Its all the past now, there is no need for all this."

"You need to calm down," Haneefah cajoles. She was also trying to figure out how to do that.

"How?"

Haneefah takes Rukkayya's hands in hers and squeezes them gently.

"It will blow over."

After what seemed like a lifetime, Ahmad appears. His eyes looked like the life had been drained out of them which matched the dejected way he walked out of the hall way. He had just started to climb the stairs when Abba emerged behind him.

"I don't want to see you anywhere near my house!"

"Abba!" Ahmad cries.

"Get out of my house young man!"

As he made his way slowly down the stairs he kept turning around to look at his parents, hoping through some miracle that they would ask him to stay, maybe hear him out but their faces said the opposite.
