"Mama na! I feel like I haven't seen you in weeks." Rukkayya tapped the other side of the bed for her to sit. It wasn't even seven yet and Atika was there bearing a large basket.
The woman gave up the chair she was aiming to sit at and sat close to the patient.
"Good Morning to you two. How are you feeling Hajiya?"
"I am much better, Alhamdulillah."
"Alhamdulillah! I brought food," Atika said to no one in particular.
"I'm not hungry."
"You need to eat," Atika urged.
"I honestly have no appetite."
"I'll be sure to order it later, for now you need to eat." There was finality to his tone that she couldn't argue with.
"Ya Ahmad.."
He wasn't having any of that he had already started dishing out the food.
"Yes, dimple."
"I'll do that," Atika says getting up.
"No, just sit right there and guard what's left of her appetite, we don't want to
lose that too."Atika laughed. "Haji kenan! You didn't even ask her what she wants."
"Its not necessary, hubby knows best," Ahmad replied nearly stopping her heart with a wink. She had always hated the winks but that...it was different and it made her turn crimson instantly.
After just a few minutes he had put together a mini feast from the variety Atika brought. The older woman pulled the stool over Rukkayya's legs right after he finished.
"It's quite simple, so eat up!" Ahmad spoke as he placed the tray on the bed stool. It was a glass of juice, grilled potatoes and scrambled eggs.
Oh how she wanted to protest but the words failed her.
"Do you want me to feed you?" Ahmad asked as he picked up the fork. She quickly took it from him.
"No, thank you."
Atika was merely suppressing her laughter throughout all of it. She had never doubted Hajiya Fatima's decision. She could not have made a better choice. The two of them, something about being in their presence was just delightful, it reminded her of her late husband.
