She was cramped up on the floor head resting on the wooden bed, Rukkayya stirred in her sleep. A bright line was shone directly on her eyes. They opened reflexively only to be shut again as the light fell directly in to them. She shifts her weight on her feet. Her legs felt like they had been replaced by logs of wood. The bright light made it difficult for her to see anything else, her mind was in complete shambles.

Where was she?

The blinding light did not make it easy for her brain to function well.
As if that wasn’t enough, an alarm abruptly sounded.

She instinctively turned around but that only added to her confusion. The alarm blared again but it came from the other side. It took a couple of seconds before she realized the alarm came from different directions.

What is going on? Oh Ya Allah help me! Rukkayya prayed.

As if she had imagined it, the alarms stopped suddenly, the bright light dimmed too. Once more throwing her in to absolute darkness.  Rukkayya’s heartbeat had accelerated, her forehead wet with sweat beads. The shock of it left her body trembling dangerously.

After a short time spent hyperventilating, unconsciousness sneaked up on her.

Nine hours had passed since the bold attack and abduction of the Modibbo’s daughter in law. The mansion was pin drop silent the air tensed and charged. The had been series of meetings with policemen since the night up till the morning. They had recounted the incident a couple of times. Ahmad had gotten fed up, reliving the horror of the past night.

The house was surrounded by security agents and policemen as well. The entire street had become more security conscious. It made little sense to Ahmad. The deed had been done and nothing was done to prevent it. So why the hell had they felt the need to beef up security now?
The scene played over and over again in his head. They had barged in, invaded their privacy and taken her along with them as if it was a natural thing, like they had simply come to retrieve their asset. He stood there watched her get taken without being able to do a thing. It made him feel so useless.

Ahmad abruptly stands up. There were too many thoughts on his mind, blinded by that, he made his way to the door.

“Ahmad!”

“Huh?” he answers absent mindedly. He did not know that she had called him two times before that.

“Where are you going to?”
