The truck drove at top speed towards where Ahmad stood beside his car. The racing of his heart doubled. Perhaps it was a bad idea to come unaccompanied then it was too late to reconsider. As the truck got closer, Ahmad said his last prayer. It was over, he failed her. Again.

Quite shocking, the truck zoomed past him only stopping at a distance. The rear opened at the same time, someone was thrown out of the vehicle before it drove off. It happened so fast, he could have imagined it.

Ahmad dashes towards the fallen figure. There she lay, blindfolded, helpless and trembling.

“Rukkayya!”

She lay on the floor, weak and tired but the familiarity in the voice gave her strength. She turned towards it but said nothing.
Ahmad fell to the floor hugging her tightly.
“I am so sorry, Rukkayya!”

“Aaahmad?”

He releases her then takes of her blindfold.

“Ahmad?” She calls again in disbelief.

“Yes, it is me. You are safe now. Let’s get out of here. He helped her up, the moment she stood on her feet, she held him tight.

“Albi, its truly you!” She cried loudly, her sobs shattered his already cracked heart.

He cups her face. “Yes it is me. You are safe now. Lets go home.”
She nods right before slumping.

“Inalillahi wa__ Rukkayya?”

The silence of the dark night was disturbed by loud sounds of sirens from a coming convoy

The first thing that registered was a blurred light. She blinked twice before it got clearer. There were voices around, whispering inaudible words.

“Rukkayya?” a voice calls. The familiarity in it forced her out of trance. She reflexively turns towards it.

“Mummy?”

“Na’am Rukkayya,” The woman responds tears streaming down her smiling face.

The person beside her mother came in her sight. “Nana?”
