Chapter 18

**

'Just where do you think you're going Shorty?'

The familiar gruff voice sounded more thick than usual in his ears, but Louis didn't stop or turn around. On the contrary he lunged for the door, which now looked like the shimmering light of hope and his ticket to escape the horrible fate waiting behind him.

His nails scratched the wooden surface of the door and Louis smiled. He was close...so close to the beam of light streaming in from under the door.

However his progress came to an abrupt stop, his body no longer moving at his will.

Louis's excitement had numbed his body; the giddiness in his stomach had ignored the pain that accompanied him as he tried to move forward. Something was stopping him, blocking his efforts to escape the hell-hole. But what?

The feeling of elation and adrenaline rush evaporated as soon as it had come, taking with it the small moment of happiness Louis had felt just minutes ago. His body became aware of the bruising pain on his left shoulder in the form of long, bony fingers, digging into his skin and making its mark on it.

'My dear Louis, answer the question...' Harry whispered in a sing-song voice that sounded more devilish then pleasant.

Lou opened his mouth to answer him but before he could form the words, he was pushed sideways. Harry's hands took hold of his wrists, locking on to them like cold iron handcuffs. He turned him around, his body pinning Lou to the door, squeezing all of the air from his lungs and making him gasp in surprise.

'Harry-' Louis choked. He could barely string two words together with the enormous weight smothering him, restricting the oxygen flow to his brain.

'Yes.' Harry's face was draped behind the veil of shadows; Louis's poor eyesight could just make out the outline of his curls and ears. His hair was sticking out in all directions and two particular strands of hair were curled up, giving it the shape of horns.

Lou knew his mind was running wild, conjuring up pictures that would be best left alone, but there was nothing he could do about it. Without the light to illuminate this room, Louis's already fearful heart was bumping against his rib cage, the portrait of the demon that was Harry, solidifying and becoming more real.

'I-I can't breathe!'

Harry's head cocked to the side, his hands tightened around Lou's slim wrists, the pressure making him wince in pain.

In one quick motion, Louis's hands were pulled up above his head, his back crashing in to the hard wood, the uneven splinters piercing his body through the thin cotton fabric of his t-shirt. Harry paid no attention to Louis's whimpers and leaned closer, his nose touching Lou's freckled one.

'You aren't real Lou, so why should you feel the need to breathe...huh?'

'Not real' ...what did Harry mean by that? Did he think this was all a dream?

Louis began to struggle against the death-grip, trying to wriggle out of Harry's hold on him, but he knew it was useless. After years of suffering under his hand Lou knew the boy was much stronger then he was.
