Chapter 4: Pewter City

After capturing Pidgey, they all headed back to the poke-center. By the time they got back, it was already late in the evening so Zia decided to get a room and eat some lunch after healing her Pokemon. She pulled out a turkey sandwich for herself and fixed some Pokemon food for the others. After setting everything out, they began eating in comfortable silence.

"Oh, I almost forgot to scan you Pidgey!" Zia mentioned, breaking the silence. She pulled out her pokedex and pointed towards the bird.

Pidgey: The Tiny Bird Pokemon
Type: normal and flying
A common sight in forests and woods. It flaps its wings at ground level to kick up blinding sand.
Known Moves: Tackle, Sand Attack, Gust, Quick Attack, Whirlwind
Egg Moves: Steel Wing, Defog, Brave Bird, Feint Attack
Gender: Male

"Now a name..... Avery! I think that's a pretty nice name, what do you think?" Pidgey, now Avery, nodded in agreement.

After everyone was done eating, Zia put Gunnar and Avery back into their pokeballs and went to sleep. Emmy and Sky seem to not like pokeballs so she decided to just leave them out and let them travel with her outside.

The next morning, everyone woke up extremely excited. Today was the day of their first gym battle. They were sitting on the bed thinking of different strategies to use against the rock type gym. So far they decided they were going to use Emmy since she had a type advantage, but the other one was yet to be decided.

After about an hour of planning, they decided to train a bit more. After about another hour of training, Zia packed up her stuff and headed out to the gym. Once there she stopped outside the gym and looked at Emmy and Sky on either side of her.

"Are you ready guys?" She asked. They both nodded yes and with that Zia opened the doors to her first step to her dream.

"I am here to challenge the Pewter City gym leader!" Zia announced as she watched as a male, maybe about 12-14, emerged onto the field. He had dark brown hair and his eyes seemed to be permanently closed but he could still see, maybe? He had a muddy-orange shirt with a green vest, dark brown pants, and brown boots.

"I am the Pewter City gym leader, Brock." The man known as Brock replied as he looked at Zia with a determined gaze.

"I am Zia Ray Braxs from Pallet Town."

"Well Zia, are you ready? This will be a two-on-two battle and the first to lose both Pokemon will lose. You may also switch Pokemon out if you so wish." Brock explained the rules and Zia replied saying she was ready and they took their spots on the field. A referee came out and repeated the same rules. As he signaled to send out their starting Pokemon, Zia sent out Emmy first.

"What is that Pokemon?! I've never seen one like that in my life!" Brock exclaimed. "She's a Snivy, they aren't really found here and are instead native to the Unova region as a starter Pokemon." she explained, to which Brock replied with a nod. Brock sent out a Geodude.

Geodude: The Rock Pokemon
Found in fields and mountains. Mistaking them for boulders, people often step or trip on them.

"A Geodude huh? Ok, I'm ready when you are Brock" Zia said as she waited for the referee to start them off. After what seemed like an hour, the ref signaled to start and off they went.

"Geodude, use rollout!" Brock was the first one to attack. As the Geodude curled into a ball and started rolling full speed at Emmy, Zia told her to dodge.
