Chapter 48: Turtle Island

A foghorn blares as Zia and company run to make it to their ship.

"This is your fault, KC! If you hadn't taken so long getting up, we could've been on the ship by now!" Zia yelled at him as they kept running. They flew down the stairs that led to the beach where the ship was docked, the last ferry that would take them off Cinnabar Island that day.

However, coming from behind a rock, a Wartortle stepped out. Zia, having been in the lead and running too quickly to stop in time, tripped over the Pokemon, making them fall. Zia laid face first on the ground as the Wartortle spun on its shell, unable to get up, though KC did help it.

Zia groaned as she sat up. She and the Wartortle regained their bearings as the random Pokemon suddenly started to speak to Sky, Emmy, and Kirlia. Kaida, as always, was amusing herself by watching different things, like the ocean, the sky, etc.

The three that were listening, however, could not understand a single thing. Zia guessed it was either the way it was talking, or it just wasn't making any sense. "Kai, I think you should help us out a little." Zia said as she released her own Wartortle.

The two water-types then began to converse, mostly the wild Wartortle doing the talking. When it was finished, Kai looked shocked for some reason, before pulling out a familiar pair of sunglasses. "Those are from the Squirtle Squad. It's been a while since we've seen those." Emmy stated, a little surprised, like the rest of them. Though, KC and Kirlia had no clue what the Squirtle Squad is. Zia will probably tell them later.

Kai put the shades on and turned back to the other Wartortle. "Let's go." He said before they both dived into the water. "Wait! Ah, something must be up." KC said as the two swam away. "Ziton, let's go as well!" Zia said and released the Gyarados. Zia explained what was happening as best she could, since she didn't really understand either, as they all piled onto the big water Pokemon.

Ziton then began swimming after the Wartortle, easily catching up. They followed the turtle Pokemon before they spotted something up ahead. "It's an island." Sky informed as they got closer. "Which one is it?" Kirlia asked.

Zia glanced at her map. "It's not on here, must be to small." She replied. "It kind of looks like a Squirtle shell." KC muttered, examining the huge rock formation that took up the middle of the island. "That's nice KC, but not very important at this moment." Zia told him. "She's still mad about the hot spring, isn't she?" KC whispered to the Pokemon. They all quickly nodded, making him sigh. "Great..."

As they arrived at the shoreline, the Wartortle took off into the forest as Ziton allowed the rest to climb off. "Thanks, Ziton." She said and returned him. They then ran after Kai and the other Pokemon.

The two suddenly stopped as Zia and the rest caught up. Before them was numerous shells laying around. "They're all Squirtle and Wartortle. I hope they're alright." KC said as he went over to one and leaned down next to it, only to hear snoring.

"It's sleeping." He stated as he stood back up. "I don't get it." Zia sighed, confused. Then the wild Wartortle got their attention, gesturing over to a rock where a giant shell laid, just like the rest. Zia pulled up her pokedex, scanning it.

Blastoise: The Shellfish Pokemon
Blastoise has water spouts that protrude from its shell. The water spouts are very accurate. They can shoot bullets of water with enough accuracy to strike empty cans from a distance of over 160 feet.

Zia walked up to it, curious. "I guess this one is sleeping as well. I wonder... why..." She trailed off as she yawned before slowly lying down in the sand, falling asleep. Kaida licked her face, but the girl just stayed down. "Zia!" Kai exclaimed as she ran over, shaking her. However, he to started to fall asleep, withdrawing into his shell like the rest.
