Chapter 73: Maybe It's Something in the Air?

"I'm starving!" Emmy whined as they all rode on Ziton's back through the water.

The whole group let out a collective sigh as they had been listening to that same sentence for the past few hours. "Fine! We'll stop by Mandarin Island to get some food." Zia told her as the Serperior perked up. "She acts just like a child." Sky muttered to Kirlia who nodded in agreement.

Coming up to Mandarin Island, they all noticed how civilized it was. Skyscrapers could be spotted above the horizon from miles away. Arriving at the docks, they all jumped off of Ziton before Zia returned the Gyarados.

"Grimer, stay away!" They suddenly heard someone yell as they looked over. Two people were being chased by Pokemon."Magnemite, just get in your pokeball. Ah!" Another person yelled in pain as their Pokemon hit them with a thunder shock.

"What's going on over there?" KC asked. "Let's go find out." Zia stated as they ran over to them. However, after a few steps, all the Pokemon stopped. "Huh? Guys, what's wrong?" Zia asked. The Luxray, Serperior, and Kirlia all suddenly turned around as they glared at their trainers. Kaida even jumped out of Zia's arms as the Dratini slithered next to the others.

"Kaida? Emmy, Sky? What's with you guys all of a sudden?" Zia asked as she walked closer. "Yeah, Kirlia. You're acting weird." KC added as he followed. All of a sudden, Sky released a discharge, sending the couple flying backwards.

They sat back up, completely confused. "Are you alright?" KC asked his girlfriend who nodded. They both looked back at their Pokemon, who were still glaring, as they walked over towards the Grimer, Magnemite, and Voltorb chasing their trainers earlier. "Guys? Where are you going?!" Zia questioned as she stood back up.

However, the Magnemite surrounded her, keeping her from following after her Pokemon. "Get away from me!" She exclaimed as they shocked her with their electricity. The girl yelled in pain before scrunching her face up, looking past the steel/electric-types. "Sky! Emmy... Kai-da!" She said through the pain as she walked towards them.

Though, almost there, she got stopped by a Voltorb who used self-destruct, creating an explosion as smoke covered the area. When it cleared, all the Pokemon were gone, including Zia's and KC's.

"Are you ok, Zia?" KC asked her, worried. "Voltorb, where are you?!/Magnemite? Magnemite, come back!" The two trainers from earlier yelled as tears formed in Zia's eyes. "My... Pokemon." She mumbled, looking broken. She'd have never expected them to do this to her. To glare at her with such hatred. "Maybe it's something in the air today?" KC asked unconvincingly as Zia shot a glare at him. "Yeah... Or maybe not." He muttered.

A siren could be heard blaring as Officer Jenny pulled up on her motorcycle. "What just happened?" She asked, probably hearing and/or seeing the explosion. Seeing the girl was too out of it to answer, KC stepped up. "All of our Pokemon started acting weird. Then there was an explosion and now they're all gone." He told her. He was also mystified as to why Kirlia was acting like that. She's never shown such emotions towards him, or anyone for that matter, before. Well, except for Cax.

"We've been getting several reports of Pokemon suddenly disobeying their trainers, attacking them, and then vanishing." The Officer told him. Suddenly, a Gastly appeared in front of Jenny. "Gastly, we're discussing official police business here." Off. Jenny said as she attempted to push the ghost-type out of the way.

Going to the police station, they called up Professor Oak. "This problem will take some thinking." He said as Zia bit her lip. "Emmy and Kaida wouldn't do this, much less Sky. And it's no coincidence that numerous other Pokemon started acting the same way in such a short span of time. I believe there's some outside force controlling their behavior." She stated, looking up at everyone.
