We were the first ones at the highway. I was worried that we may be the only people who arrived. I was standing, leaning against the car, Rick was pacing, and Carl was just sitting on the back end of a Cadillac, not saying a word. I went over to him.
" Hey." I Said. He was silent. I sat down next to him and put my head on his shoulder. " I can't imagine how you must feel right now. and I'm so sorry you have to feel this way."
" I can't be angry. not until she is back."
" Why is that?"
" If she... if they don't make it back, my last thoughts about my mom can't be angry ones. I need to wait. Just... wait."
We just sat there. seconds. minutes. hours. I was losing hope. so was Carl. I could tell.
"Carl," Rick mumbled. " Its time to go."
" But..." Carl started.
" Carl, it's time to go." Rick got into the car and started it. I stood up and held out my hand to him.
" Carl, come on." I said softly. He took my hand and we got into the car. I heard the roar of an engine. it was REALLY loud. I couldn't hear myself think. that was when I realized that wasn't our car making the noise, it was a bunch of cars, and a motorcycle. it was them! We got out of the car. We all took a moment to acknowledge who was left; me, Carl ( THANK GOD ), Rick ( it's a GOOD THING ), Lori ( shes more of a mother to me than my mom ever was, so yeah ), Hershel ( don't know well), Beth ( Don't know well ) Maggie ( So sweet!!!! ), Daryl ( Really like him, he's tough but has morals ), Amy ( Like my sister), and Glenn ( don't know anything except he's head over heels for Maggie, and its VERY obvious). Now it's the ten of us, and I knew we'd do well. as everyone was asking questions, Carl and I just locked arms and stayed silent.
" Carl! Thea!" Lori came over to hug us but Carl pulled back ( so I went back with him. ) The smile whipped off of Loris face.
" I know about the baby, mom. I'm your son! why didn't you tell me? I bet that almost everyone else already knew, but if not, there you go! HEY EVERYBODY!!! LORI IS FREAKING PREGNANT AND KEPT IT FROM HER SON!" Carl screamed. " So who other than me and Theodora didn't know? Huh?" Nobody said anything. " So everyone else knew? So you even told Amy, and Glenn, people you just met two or three weeks ago? Unbelievable! I'm sorry, because even though I've known you my whole life, you still must feel as if I'm a stranger and you can't tell me anything."
" Carl, I was going to tell you, just..."
" Just what mom?! You were to busy telling everyone else and then decided that telling me would just be a waste of breath?"
" Carl, it's not like that. I..."
" No. Now you come and get me when you come up with a reason why I wasn't told that isn't full of bullshit." Carl stormed into the RV and went into the private section. Lori turned to Rick. he spoke solemnly and sternly.
" It was time he knew. He just needed to know."
