Movie night was very simple thankfully because no one was in the mood for any sort of party. Kelsey had gotten her way picking the movie but only because she'd beaten the rest of her team in a race to get to the living room, declaring they'd watch the Blues Brothers.
Tony actually grumbled about not being the one to pick the movie but Kelsey simply spoke over him saying it was a classic. And as soon as Steve said he'd never heard of it nor was it on his list of things to catch up on, all objections were instantly silenced by the look Kelsey shot at anyone who dared to object.
"Steve, this is a mission from god. You are not going another day, nay another hour or minute without watching this." Kelsey said melodramatically sticking the movie into the player before dropping into the seat between Clint and Steve. Tony took up the seat on far part of the L-couch while Bruce and Natasha sat together on a love seat. Clint had been in charge of ordering the Chinese food and as soon as he had finished on the phone Kelsey was quick to press play on the remote control.
After the movie started, the take out came actually rather quickly with them with the movie barely past the prison scene. After dealing out everyone's orders the movie was quickly turned back on. For once watching the movie was actually not the best part, instead the best part had to be looking at Steve's horrified expression during the duration of the 2 and a half hour film, through the car chases and especially with the blatant destruction of anything that came close to Jake and Elwood. The part with the nun smacking both of the brothers with a ruler and then with a wooden rod got a few laughs out of him and the rest of the team.
But the part that truly got Steve was the Nazi scene. At the sight of the swastika Steve's body went rigid but as soon as Jake and Elwood drove over the bridge causing the Nazi's to jump into the water he lost it. He burst out into laughter holding his chest for some peculiar reason as he almost doubled over with laughter, cheering too.
Eventually the movie ended but no one got up to instead the six Avengers just relaxed on the sofas talking among themselves. Kelsey for the most part just sat back watching as the rest of her team interact with on each other. But as she let out a tired yawn she'd unfortunately gained Clint's attention and it was clear that the cogs in his head were going trying to think about something to say or ask her. You could almost smell the fumes coming from his head before he finally started talking.
"So, Kelsey, you said you own a library, what else do you do in your personal life?"
"Not much, I'm at work, here or in my apartment."
"What? Don't you have friends or a family you spend time with?" He questioned her a second time clearly not satisfied by her feeble attempt at a response. His voice got slightly louder with his second question gaining the whole rooms attention.
"No, I don't." Kelsey responded bringing the can of coke she'd been drinking the whole of the night to her lips and chugging it. Her confession left the whole room silent.
"You're joking right?"
"Nope, I've got no family, my parents were killed when I was twelve and I came to NYC at seventeen. And I don't have friends because I could perpetually put them into danger."
"Well you can count us as your friends. We can handle any danger that comes our way." Steve reassured Kelsey with a gentle smile breaking the pained momentary silence.
"You guys attract danger everywhere you go." She retorted with the smallest of snorts ignoring the looks of pity she was getting from the her teammates.
"She's not wrong." Bruce said from across the way in his seat next to Natasha when he saw the look of hurt on a few of the Avengers.
"I've got a question. How'd you get your powers? What was it super-soldier serum, spy training, genetic engineering?" Tony asked standing up for some unknown reason as he questioned her.
"Runs in the family."
"Elaborate."
"I inherited my abilities from my grandmother and she inherited them from hers. For as far back as my family's history gone the power has existed. But it's only been through the female line and it always skips a generation for some stupid reason." Kelsey grumbled slightly.
"Maybe someday I can help you figure out how it happens."
Idiot, you know that won't end well. Get away from the topic, now.
"Maybe, I don't know... my mom vehemently believed it was some curse by a witch who was spurned by my ancestors." She answered with a shrug of the shoulder before letting out a long yawn. After her explanation no one else spoke leaving the room in silence getting again.
"I'm going to call it a night," Kelsey said spotting the time on the digital clock seeing it was well after 1am as she yawned loudly. Within a few seconds she yawned a second and third time.
"I'll show you to your room." Tony said with a wave of his hand at her.
"Night guys." Kelsey said following after Tony who led her to the elevator. They went down only a few floors from the main floor before the elevator opened.
"So, this is the floor with your room, two floors below are the training floor and there's a library/study the floor below it. Seriously if you want, you're always welcome even if you aren't living here full time. Anyway... here is your room."
With his last words Tony stopped in front of a door pushing it open to reveal a darkened room, but as the pair stepped through the threshold the lights gradually turned on illuminating the room with softer lighting.
It was a very nice rather big room; this room was definitely bigger than the one she had in her apartment for sure.
"Holy shit Tony this is insane." Kelsey said mouth wide open.
"It's not that much just a queen bed, full bathroom and a walk-in closet."
"Not that much? Geez this whole thing may be bigger than my apartment, it sure as hell could fit in here without the walls."
The room just screamed modern just like the rest of the tower. The walls were colored a light grey, with a shaggy darker grey rug, the wall directly across from her had a queen-sized bed with black nightstands on each side of the bed with a window behind them. Then to the right side of the door against the wall was a black dresser that went just past her waist, next to it were two half-filled bookshelves with a white chair in the corner. On the left side she could see a door leading into what she presumed was the bathroom, while a set of double doors that were open to the empty but organizer filled walk in closet.
"If you think this is big, I wonder what you'd think about my room." He commented wiggling this eyebrows jokingly.
"This is big enough thanks." Kelsey responded with a light-hearted laugh before going into another series of yawns.
"Go to bed kid." Tony said with a gentle smile patting her head only to have his hand smacked away.
"I'm not a kid Tony." Kelsey said quickly with the tiniest of pouts before bursting out into another yawn.
You sure as hell act like it.
"Get some rest though, ask Jarvis for anything you need."
"Night Tony."
"Night Kelsey."
Turning, Tony quickly exited the room closing the door behind him. Kelsey sighed happily kicking off her shoes and crossing the room to the bed shedding her clothes. Dropping onto the unbelievably soft mattress Kelsey let out a happy sigh.
"Hey Jarvis?" Kelsey asked as she squirmed to get under the even softer covers and sheets.
"Yes, Miss Blackburn?"
"Could you please turn off the lights and cover the windows."
"Yes ma'am."
Not even seconds later the room was pitch black, and thankful Kelsey let out a gentle sigh closing her eyes to try to fall asleep. But it had to have been at least an hour or so before she actually drifted asleep. Sleep was never kind to Kelsey.
