How she got there, Kelsey had no idea. But after closing her eyes for maybe a second she was out of the bunker with Steve and the others and in a completely different place.
It had to be a bank because three out of the four walls were covered in golden safe boxes, the majority of them torn open with things all across the ground.
In the center of the room was a chair surrounded by equipment. There he was... Bucky sitting on the chair as a pair of scientist worked on his metal arm.
Saying his name felt so weird. She was sure she knew him but how and from when she had no idea.
Looking around the room Kelsey counted seven guards armed with semi-automatics. Kelsey moved further into the room surprised that no one even acknowledged her presence.
Kelsey walked across the room stopping in front of the chair that James was in, she lowered herself so she was eye level with him. Reaching out, Kelsey slowly held her hand out in front of her reaching towards James. She kept her eyes trained on him, his expression looked like he was a world away, eyes glazed over.
Slowly Kelsey brought her hand to his cheek. She was barely touching him but she could feel the warmth radiating off him and the rough stubble on his cheeks.
"Bucky..." She called softly and suddenly he lurched into reality, wildly throwing his metal arm out. Kelsey squeezed her eyes shut bracing herself for the pain but opened her eyes immediately when nothing happened. Instead she watched as one of the Hydra agents who had been working on his arm get sent flying backwards.
All the armed agents jumped to action turning to face Bucky and aim the nozzles of their guns at him. There was a loud click as all the men clicked the safety off their guns in unison.
Cursing slightly Kelsey turned her focus back to Bucky, watching him as he panted heavily almost in a panic.
"Hey. Hey. Shhh... It's okay." She whispered even though she knew he couldn't hear her, bringing both her hands up both resting on either side of the soldier turned assassin. He eventually started to calm down, but it didn't stop the men from keeping their guns trained on him.
"Sir, he's...he's unstable. Erratic." The scientist said just outside of the safe as the door opened again. In strode, Pierce with Rumlow and a few other Hydra agents, crossing the room he came to a stop in front of Bucky. Kelsey stood up moving to the side standing next to the chair Bucky was in.
"Mission report." Pierce demanded but Bucky was in a daze his expression another worlds away. "Mission report, now."
Pierce moved a step closer to Bucky and suddenly striked him hard across his face.
"The man on the bridge... Who was he?" Bucky asked softly looking up to Pierce.
"You met him earlier this week on another assignment." Pierce explained dismissively.
"He was Steve, you're friend. You know him." Kelsey said squatting down and whispering in his ear. They may not be able to see her but maybe, just maybe she could reach him.
"I knew him." Bucky said repeating her last few words.
"Yes! Yes you did. He's you're bestfriend." Kelsey said almost cheering only to hear as her voice echoed at the end. Looking down to her hands her whole hand became translucent.
"Your work has been a gift to mankind. You shaped the century, and I need you to do it one more time. Society is at a tipping point between order and chaos. Tomorrow morning we're gonna give it a push. But, if you don't do your part, I can't do mine, and HYDRA can't give the world the freedom it deserves." Pierce said unloading a load of bull onto the struggling Bucky.
"But I knew him." Bucky responded.
"He's your bestfriend Bucky!" Kelsey shouted as loud as she could but her voice only came out in a very low echo.
"Prep him." Pierce said turning to one of the scientists.
"He's been out of cryo-freeze too long."
"Then wipe him and start over."
Pierce then turned eaving the room, as he did the scientists strap Bucky in his chair and then place a teeth shield in his mouth. The chair leaned back and these mechanical arms descended over Bucky's head.
"What are you doing? Stop it!!" Kelsey said rushing to push the scientists away from the computers.
They pressed a single button and it made Bucky start to scream loudly. Kelsey charged towards the scientist only to phase right through them and fall to the ground roughly.
Her ears were filled with Bucky's painfully loud screams as her vision went black.
~~~~
Jolting up Kelsey gasped desperately looking at her surroundings desperately in search of Bucky.
But the room was empty.
"Kels. It's time to head out." Sam said walking into the room.
"I'll be there in a sec." Kelsey said trying to calm herself down.
"You okay?"
"Yeah."
"Alright, Hill brought your gear." Sam said throwing a black duffel bag into the room.
"Thanks." Kelsey smiled gently.
