Hello everyone! I hope you are all enjoying the story so far stuff is going to be picking up real soon I promise. But I also wanted to put this bit in here, this chapter does bring up some darker stuff.
Living part time at the Stark Towers was something Kelsey struggled to adjust to. After living for years on her own, the prospect of having to worry about disturbing others with her terrible excuse for a sleep schedule made her sleep even worse. The nights she couldn't fall asleep while staying at the tower she'd just stare up at the ceiling counting to hundred repeatedly. There were the nights she'd just go out to patrol the city, eventually returning to the tower just before sunrise.
Other nights like this one, Kelsey would either wonder the floors of the tower sometimes hanging out with Tony. His insomnia tended to be just as bad as hers too.
But tonight, after hours of traversing through all the whole tower, every single floor, Kelsey simply went to entertain herself in the gym. A little extra training was always good. And it kept Kelsey occupied until the sun rose during those late summer mornings. She spent an hour working on her flexibility and doing a bit of weight training. All the while, Fall Out Boy was blasting from the speakers.
After a while Kelsey slowed down switching to use the punching bag. But when she heard the sliding door to the training room she abruptly stopped.
"Kelsey." Steve called causing her to turn around.
"Morning Steve, what's up?" She said nonchalantly wiping the random strands of hair out of her face.
"I was just about to ask you the same." He asked crossing the room to stand in front of her. The punching bag, not one to be forgotten, slammed into her back sending her stumbling forward. Steve let out a laugh watching as she fumbled to stop the bag from swinging.
"What are you doing up this early?" Steve questioned her again, looking over to the clock it was just about 6 am.
"I was awake so I thought why not be productive?" Kelsey responded with a smile looking over Steve quickly trying to make it not too obvious. Steve was decked out in his usual workout clothes aka a tight grey short sleeved under armor tee and navy-blue sweatpants with his running sneakers.
Little did Kelsey know, Steve had done the exact same thing to her, she was simply wearing black and green jogging pants and black sports bra with a lightweight running jacket over it, her hair had been pulled up into a tight ponytail but over the hours stray pieces were sticking out everywhere with some pieces sticking to her sweat covered face.
"So, what about you Capsicle? What are you up to?" Kelsey asked crossing her arms over her chest as she smiled at him.
"Just about to go on my morning run through Central Park. How about you come with me?" He said with his signature All-American smile. Any other girl would have undoubtedly would have melted under that smirk but Kelsey just rolled her eyes at him.
"Sure, why the heck not? It can't be that bad." Kelsey smiled unknowing of how much she'd come to regret those words in a very short amount of time.
Leaving the tower, Kelsey and Steve were barely out of the door before the pair had decided to make it into a race. Steve, being his super soldier self, quickly took the lead before Kelsey began to fly zipping through the air, right past Steve reaching the park seconds before he did.
Smiling smugly Kelsey dropped down, her feet hitting the ground.
"I win." She declared.
"Yeah, yeah, yeah come on."
Again the two took off jogging alongside each other until Steve decided he just had to run. And by run, Kelsey meant run like the devil was on his heels, after jogging through the various park trails the two of them picked the Shuman running track around the Jaqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir. And from then on Steve was gone leaving Kelsey in the dust. With each lap Kelsey did Steve had past her three times saying in that snarky way of his: "On your left."
