Her body felt as though it was entirely made of lead. Every part of her body ached painfully, she could barely move a finger if she focused hard enough and put all her energy into it.

What had happened?

Everything had blended together in an ugly messy haze one which she could not make heads or tails of. Opening her eyes, just barely, she could not see a single thing, it was all black. All she could see was the darkness.

"Kelsey." A muffled voice reached her ears muddled among the sounds that were attacking her ears. There was an unsteady beeping that was coming from the right of where she was laying but before Kelsey could discern anything else a loud painful ringing overwhelmed her senses.

"Shit. Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit." Kelsey groaned as a needle like pain stabbed her forehead. Again, more muffled voices started sounding around her as she felt a weight settle on top of her body, all the voices mixed together into some incoherent babble that was impossible to figure out.

"Guys, I can't hear you." She'd whimpered out before she'd started to wheeze, her lungs tightening painfully as her throat lit on fire. Coughing and hacking, Kelsey's whole body started to spasm, her throat felt drier than the desert turned raw through her coughing fits.

What's happening? Why does everything hurt?! Kelsey scrounged her mind desperate for some reason as to why things were happening; the questions only stopped when a thick familiar cackle resonated through her skull.

What the hell did you do!?! Kelsey questioned the voice inside her mind.

While you were tucked away, living my memories I decided it was time for me to introduce myself to the team. Let's just say there was a bit of a scrap between us and your friends. The voice, Connie (just the idea of her left a bad taste in Kelsey's mouth), laughed vindictively and already Kelsey could feel her blood boiling.

You bitch.

Now you don't want to lose control again now do you? I might just take over completely.

Connie's voice only fueled the fury growing inside Kelsey which simultaneously added flames to the intense migraine that had her head throbbing as it felt like a rock settled inside her stomach. Squeezing her eyes tightly one last time, Ava slowly, carefully peaked her eyes open as the smallest bit of light met her eyes. The world was no longer pitch black, instead all her surroundings were hazy, shapes and forms that molded together.

The voices still very muffled, finally overcame the high-pitched ringing and the words started to make sense.

"How long have you known Rogers?" Tony's voice was the first one Kelsey could comprehend, his voice was harsh, nothing like his usual self. He'd been trying to whisper but it certainly did not work.

Next came Steve and any control on volume had long been forgotten, "Known what Stark?"

Kelsey did her best to look towards where the voices were coming from, everything still very blurry and her body still practically numb. Her eyes finally found two figures standing not too far from the bed she was laying on. One stood taller and slightly bulkier with a head of golden blonde hair, that was Steve which meant the smaller one with black hair was Tony.

"About Kelsey, about Connie. You're the one who brought her in to the team in the first place. You two are best friends after all. Did you know the whole time and choose not to say anything?"

"I didn't know anything. You know full well I met Kelsey during the battle for New York, Fury had already established contact with her for some time before the battle. And I found out about Connie at the exact same time you did."
