"Kelsey! Kelsey, get back here!!" Tony's almost angry shout echoed through the polished hall of the Avenger's tower trying to stop Kelsey as she stormed away from him and the rest of the group. She'd somehow managed to hide from the team on the quinjet the whole ride back to New York. And the second the plane had landed she'd reappeared running off and leaving the rest of them in the dust.
"Kelsey!" Tony shouted again reaching out just enough to grab the fleeing woman by the wrist, stopping Kelsey in her tracks.
"NO! Let go of me!!" Kelsey screamed hoarsely as gush of wind knocked Tony back a few feet ripping her forearm out of his grasp. A mix of fear and horror enveloped her face as tears streamed down her face as she pulled her hand in cradling it against her chest. "I am a monster, I can't control my abilities. I am a liability to the team and any time you guys are near me I am putting all your lives at risk!"
"Kelsey that's not true." Steve said trying to coax Kelsey out of her hysterics but it only seemed to add fire to the flames, her eyes darting wildly between her teammates.
"Yes it is." Kelsey whispered her whole body started to shake as she wrapped her arms around herself.
Shaking her head, Kelsey began to back away from them fearing any damage she might cause them. "I lost control... Everyone in that building is dead because of me, who knows how many agents or civilians I killed because I couldn't control my powers."
You should've never tried being a hero. What we're you thinking? Remember all the people dead by your hand. It's your fault, all your fault.
No, no it was an accident.
"I made a giant mess out of it all. I ruined the mission!" I said grabbing the hair on the top of my scalp and pulled on it roughly.
You gave into me and then when you tried to take control again you couldn't.
I never should've it was a mistake.
"Kelsey it wasn't all your fault." Natasha tried to say as Clint set her down the sofa.
"YES IT WAS!" Kelsey screamed back shrilly, her eyes turning into something like that of a feral animal.
It's all your fault.
"There were innocent people trapped in that building and because of me they are dead!!" She'd said tears flowing from her eyes.
You're the mistake.
You're the a freak.
You don't deserve them.
You don't deserve to live.
"Kelsey!" Someone shouted out overshadowing the voice in her head.
An icy cold chill traveled down her spine looking up to see Steve's face was inches away from hers, his hands were cupping her face. They felt hotter than the sun and her body was a slab of ice melting away under the heat.
Again Kelsey's eyes darted around the room at her fellow teammates. Everyone had looks of horror etched across their faces, their battle worn faces all were stark white.
"W-What d-d-did I do?" Kelsey asked fearfully stepping away from Steve's grasp.
"You started talking to yourself and then your eyes went crazy they were green and then they were brown and then they were both." Clint chimed in eyeing her almost suspiciously.
Oops, looks like they know. Probably don't even trust you at this point, freak. Again the voice in her head cooed, Kelsey was sure she could hear it laughing maniacally.
