Confusion

After getting off the phone with Natasha, Kelsey flew directly back to the hospital. Dropping back onto the roof Kelsey pulled off her bag again. Taking off her jacket and face mask, Kelsey shoved them into the bag and instead pulled on her extremely old baggy blue green sweatshirt out of the bag and threw it on before going to head into the hospital.

Keeping the bag on only one shoulder, Kelsey pulled her hood on to cover her face. Retracing her steps from hours earlier she made her way back to the room she had been in the previous evening. Just as she turned the corner Kelsey was grabbed by the back of her sweatshirt and pulled into a darkened room. Jerking herself free from the person's grip, Kelsey spun around quickly only to see Steve and Natasha were the only other people in the room.

"Guys what the actual hell is going on? SHIELD Agents busted into my apartment and started shooting when I didn't go with them back to the Triskelion." Kelsey hissed furiously.

"Shit" Steve muttered roughly. "Do you know why?"

"I don't know! They said they were under Pierce's orders."

The name instantly hardened Steve's expression and Kelsey immediately picked up on it.

"You know something, what is it?" Kelsey demanded instantly.

"I can't say."

"Bullshit Steve. If I'm going to help you with whatever the fuck this shit is you need to clue me in on what you know."

"How do I know I can trust you?" Steve asked rather coldly.

"I'm just going to pretend you didn't just say that." Kelsey growled fiercely as she faced him fully and taking a step closer to her 'friend'. "When in the past two years have I given you any reason NOT to trust me? Seriously I chose to move down here part time to help you adjust to the twenty-first century."

Realizing his mistake Steve nodded pulling a hand out of his pocket and showing off a silver flash drive to Kelsey.

"Fury gave me this after he was shot."

"What's on it?"

"That's what we're going to find out." Natasha said watching Kelsey take a step back and running a hand through her hair. "If SHIELD is after this, the second we access it on any computer they'll come for us."

"We'll need to go some place crowded, easy to slip by unnoticed and access a computer anonymously. I know the perfect place."  Kelsey spoke quickly before leading the way out of the hospital room.

Just under an hour later, the trio were in one of Washington DC's packed malls.  While Steve and Natasha were busy working on the flash drive, Kelsey had opted to keep watch knowing it was only a matter of time before SHEILD's best would arrive ready to try to take them down.

Natasha gave her the signal and instantly Kelsey was on guard. Natasha said it would take about nine minutes to track them down but if SHIELD was smart they'd have their people already on their way before they get the got the exact location.

Just under nine minutes later, Kelsey spotted Rumlow in the distance.  Turning to give the signal, Kelsey was shocked to see that Steve and Natasha were already feet away from her.

"They're here. Be careful."

With those four words Kelsey readjusted her hoodie and left the store before the other two. Crossing the large hallway, Kelsey kept her head low as she made her way towards the exit, every now and then looking across the busy mall hallway to check on Steve and Nat. Just before the exit, Kelsey spotted Rumlow talking with other members of the STRIKE Team.

As if sensing Kelsey's eyes on him, Rumlow began to spin around. Spotting this, without hesitation Kelsey flicked her wrist out sending a poor random civilian into one of the rolling stalls causing it to topple over right on top of one of the SHIELD agents as all the trinkets that had been on the stall to scatter all over the floor. This did the trick and Rumlow's attention was diverted to dragging the agent off the ground as they tried to pick up all the junk that had fallen off the cart. Practically running out of the mall, Kelsey grabbed onto Steve's sweatshirt sleeve pulling him behind her as Natasha walked alongside her.

"Where are we going?" Kelsey asked softly.

"New Jersey." Was Steve's response as they turned into the parking garage.

Much to the girls' surprise, Steve actually hot wired a pickup truck they'd found unlocked in the parking complex that was attached to the mall. Soon after, the trio were on the road speeding away from the city as fast as they possibly could to some place Kelsey had no clue about.

"So what happened?" Kelsey questioned from her spot sprawled out on the back seat of the pick up. "What did you guys find out?"

"We couldn't see what was on the drive, there was something that kept blocking out my commands. So we used a tracer and found its origin in Wheaton, New Jersey." Natasha explained as Steve kept his eyes on the road.

"Wait. Steve isn't that-?"

"Yeah, Camp Lehigh."

"I've heard of that name before." Natasha said looking back over her shoulder to get a proper view of Kelsey's face.

"It's where I went to training camp before getting the serum."

Kelsey chose to let herself doze off  knowing that the car ride would definitely be taking a few hours before they'd reach New Jersey. It honestly only felt like she was asleep for a few minutes, waking up from the dreamless nap with a pounding headache. Though she kept her eyes closed she caught the tail end of a conversation between Steve and Natasha.

"So what do you want me to be?" Natasha asked softly.

"How about a friend?"

Natasha let out a small dry chuckle before retorting with, "There's a chance you might be in the wrong business Rogers."

Neither of them said anything else but Kelsey felt the car coming to a slow stop before the engine shut off.

"We're here?" She asked slowly sitting up feeling as her muscles stretched achingly after being curled in a ball for hours on end.

"Yeah." Steve responds as the three of them stepped out of the car heading towards the chain link fence. Using his shield, Steve broke the lock on the fence like it was nothing.

"Here we go."

Hey guys I know this chapter is really short but I'm dealing with a bad bout of writers block and since I haven't posted in a while I wanted to make sure I got something up.
