No more than a week later, with the stitches and bruises still fresh all across her body. The long angular cut on the side of her face was in plain sight the black stitches holding it close only made Kelsey look even more intimidating. She was the first person in the hangar of the helicarrier that morning, she was decked out in the Hydra uniform Schumacher had been wearing when he had tried to kill her in with tailored to fit her body better. The team was only Kelsey, Natasha, Steve and Clint with Tony and Bruce staying back at the tower in order to feed the team information.
Kelsey was carefully studying all the notes she'd been supplied through the mission report.
"Are you ready?" Clint asked being the second person to arrive at the ship.
"I've been ready since that bastard knocked me out last week."
"Are you sure you want to do this?"
"There isn't a single doubt in my mind about doing this." She said moving a stray lock away from her eyes as she looked over the gathered information on her tablet. Without looking up Kelsey turned on her feet and walked up the ramp to the ship.
"When the other two get here let's just go." She called back over her shoulder before disappearing into the plane. Natasha and Steve arrived minutes later, getting into the ship, Steve took the seat next to Kelsey as Clint and Natasha went to the cockpit.
Since the attack, Steve had become very protective, walking her home every single time she went to the tower to train or hang out.
He'd always go into her apartment to make sure that no one else was in her apartment before leaving her. At first, she thought it was very kind of him but in only a few days it got tiring and really annoying.
The trip was hours long they all knew that, especially since they were traveling to Austria. Kelsey chose to put her earbuds in listen to her music on the way to the mission before slipping into a quick but peaceful nap. It had felt like it was only a few second when she was woken up by a quick jerk when the plane hit some turbulence.
"How far away are we?"
"Not that far, you were out cold most of the time." Steve responded and Kelsey couldn't help but stretch picking up her tablet from the floor and turning it on to review her notes for maybe the hundredth time that day, double checking, triple checking and quadruple checking the steps she'd need to take in order to be successful on the mission. But she was unable to focus completely as she felt a set of eyes trained on her unwavering causing her to not be able to concentrate.
"Steven Grant Rogers, stop staring at me like that. I am fine and I will be even more than fine when the mission is over and I've cracked a few skulls."
"You realize that this is a reconnaissance mission, right? It should just be get in and get out as fast as possible. And trying to avoid confrontation."
"Actually Steve, my mission isn't."
The look he gave her was one of absolute shock.
"Your mission is reconnaissance, mine is distraction."
"What do you mean?" Steve asked his voice raising as he looked towards Natasha and Clint in the cockpit, but they knew better than to look back at him or even acknowledge Steve.
"You're joking right?" Steve questioned in disbelief.
"Nope, I'm gonna go in, act like I've joined Hydra then create a big enough distraction for you guys to get in and out without being noticed."
Passing Steve her tablet, Kelsey stood up stretching quickly, Steve looked through her mission report taking in every single detail.
"No, this is bullshit, you are not doing this."
