Diego's POV

wow. she lied to me.

"hey, mom. I'm gonna call Madeline real quick. but go ahead and head inside and get us a table." i smiled at my mom as she parked the car in Outbacks parking lot.

"alright. don't take too long." she sighed while getting out and shutting the door.

i sighed before dialing madelines number.

Madeline: uhh..hey baby, you okay? why are you calling?

me: oh i was just..you know..missing your voice..hows your girl's lunch thing going?

Madeline: fantastic babe, we just finished lunch and I'm heading back to the house.

me: why dont you invite her over..i could meet her, you know?

Madeline: oh darn babe, i would but she already left. 

me: what did you say her name was again? 

Madeline: Sophia. but hey, i got to go, heading home. i love you. see you soon. 

me: yep. see you later i guess..

then i hung up.

"hey mom. sorry." i smiled while sitting down in the seat in front of her.

"its fine. gotta check on the fiance every once in a while right?" she laughed while looking at the menu.

"yeah...im not so sure about the fiance part anymore..." i sighed while powering my phone off all the way.

Madeline's POV

diego called as soon as Jason walked away. i hate lying to him..but i needed to get things right between me and Jason without Diego interfering.

once i got home, i decided to change into some sweatpants and watch tv.

Private Messages:

Jason: i hate how we can only be friends. ive always liked you...ever since high school.

me: Jason, seriously. you need to stop.

Jason: would you consider dating me again if you werent with Diego?

me: idk, i cant picture myself with anyone else but Diego.

Jason: ill take that as a maybe. see you around...friend.

i smiled as i locked my phone and laid down on the couch.

eventually, i ended up falling asleep.

Diego's POV

"thanks for lunch mom.." i wrapped my arm around her shoulder as we walked out to the car.

"your welcome sweetheart..." she patted me on my back. 

"do you mind taking me straight home instead of going to the movies? im not feeling too good..and i think its time to take my medicine." i pursed my lips. i really just wanted to go home and see if Madeline was there.

"oh no i dont mind, we can always go another time," she assured me as we got In the car. 

"thanks." I sighed as we headed towards the house. 

"so. what did you mean when you said you weren't so sure about the fiancé part anymore..." she looked at me, raising an eyebrow before setting her attention back on the road. 

"its just...she lied to me. about something serious. then when I called her...she lied. again. she and I both promised each other a clean slate...a fresh start...and quite frankly I don't want to marry someone who's idea of a new start is to lie about having lunch with her ex boyfriend. you know..." I smacked my lips in disappointment. 

"waait. what? hold on. go back to the part about her lying to you?" she looked at me. 

"its fine...I mean I guess she had a reason to lie right?" I laughed awkwardly. 

"no. she has no excuse to lie to you about her EX BOYFRIEND." she yelled. 

"yeah well..im not even gonna confront her about it. there's no point." i stared out the window as we pulled into the driveway. 

"but diego..you cant act like it didn't happen..." she parked the car in the driveway. 

"yeah i know. and she'll get the idea that somethings wrong eventually." i gave my mom a half hug before getting out the car and running up the steps. 

i walked inside and saw Madeline asleep on the couch. i purposely slammed the door, waking her up. 

her eyes flickered opened. 

"hey babe.why'd you slam the door?" she leaned up off the couch, scratching her head while yawning. 

"i felt like it." i smiled while making my way to the kitchen. 

"are you okay?" she followed in behind me. 

"ive never been better" i sighed. 

then i heard Madelines phone go off. 

"who is that?" i respond quickly while looking her in the eyes. 

Madelines POV

i heard my phone go off in my pocket, and so did Diego. 

"who is that?" he said, sounding very determined. 

"um i dont know.." i said while pulling my phone out.

Jason: going on tour, gonna miss you.

"it was Maredith. the girl i had lunch with earlier." i shook my head and laughed. 

"oh was it really?" he raised an eyebrow while pouring his cup of Mountain Dew. 

"yes it was." 

"thats funny. you told me the girls name was Sophia earlier.." he smiled before pushing past me and walking to the bedroom.

"sorry, i got the names mixed up.," i said nervously. 

"yeah. i don't think you did." he laughed while changing into sweatpants.

"what are you talking about?" i was confused. 

"nothing Madeline.." he shook his head while getting in bed. 

"goodnight." he sighed.
