I'm finally dressed having chosen a simple high neck blouse and long skirt to accommodate the growing bump and Lindsey praises my appearance. I'm smiling so much I think that my cheeks will ache by the end of the day. He's sweet, kind, considerate and as the cab drops us off at the car rental place, Lindsey opens the door for me, helping me out. He takes my hand as we walk inside and he finds a seat for me automatically so I don't have to stand.
"How are we feeling?" he asks softly, stroking my cheek.
"Hungry, but it can wait."
"Damn, that completely slipped my mind. Okay, after this, we can eat then we will go to my place. Sound like a plan?" I nod, smiling and he kisses my forehead. "I will try to make this as fast as I can."
And he does. Before I know if, Lindsey is given the keys to a shiny, black Lincoln Mark VII. The man rambles on about 225 hp "H.O." and 5.0L something...it is all very boring and to be honest, I'm not really listening as my mind is fully focused on my impending meal. Lindsey opens the passenger door and I get in. As he walks around to his side of the car, I look around and the first thing I notice is how many screens this thing has. I briefly remember the mention of a message center and digital read outs for god knows what...Lindsey's previous car was advanced for sure and I still don't know how he operated the damn thing. I must have a bewildered look on my face because he chuckles, patting my knee.
"Don't worry, I've got it." His warm, confident smile relaxes me. I lay back a little, closing my eyes. I'm already so tired. "So where would you like to eat?"
"Anywhere! If I don't eat soon, I'll faint or die!"
I can hear in his voice he's smiling. "I definitely don't want you to faint or die so let's take a look around."
He starts up the car and pulls out of the lot, headed down the street. I spot something right away, a cute 50s diner, and Lindsey indulges me, flipping a wicked bitch to make sure we can park and eat. He goes inside first and when he comes back out, he takes me back behind the building. I feel a rush between my legs, remembering us a teenagers, sneaking away to neck or make love. He looks at me and I know he's thinking the same thing. He's so handsome. He pulls me through the doorway and into a booth where glasses of water are waiting for us. We scan the menu but I can't get him off my mind. I simply order a burger and fries as it comes and Lindsey does the same. Just as the waiter walks away, he calls him back, ordering two chocolate milkshakes. I squeal in excitement and he chuckles, taking my hands across the table.
"Thank you" I tell him, my voice but a hoarse whisper.
"It's not a problem, sweetheart. I just hope the food gets here fast. I've made you wait long enough." He stroked the back of my hand lovingly. "You are so beautiful."
"No way, I'm barely wearing any make up, my outfit is kind of thrown together based on what fits and what doesn't..."
"But that doesn't take away from your beauty." I look down at our joined hands on the table, blushing. A smile creeps across my face.
"Thanks, Linds." We pull our hands apart as our food and milkshakes arrive. My eyes widen, and Lindsey chuckles at me.
"Eat up, mama. Enjoy." I look up at him and smile back.
"Thank you for this."
"Don't thank me. Your full stomach and good mood are enough thanks for me."
I pat his hand before digging in and I devour every last bit. Lindsey watches on in amusement and shakes his head when I take my final bite. "What?"
"You're just...I don't know, you're cute."
"And why is that?" Lindsey pays the bill and our hands join again, our fingers lacing together. I smile at the contact. We fit so perfectly together.
