Miracle

Maaga akong hinatid ni Sven sa bahay. Tinanggihan ko na nga siya ng sabihin niyang mag-breakfast muna bago umuwi. I just really felt the need to rush home.

"Sunshine, please tell me, we're okay. Sumisikip 'yong dibdib ko, Miracle."mahinang sambit niya nang ihinto na niya ang kotse sa tapat ng bahay.

"Hey. Gorgeous, we're fine. We are totally fine. I just really want to go home. Come on, let's get inside. Sabay na tayong magbreakfast."yaya ko pa sa kanya para maalis ang pangamba't lungkot niya.

"No. It's okay. Uuwi nga pala ako ng bahay ngayon. Nagtext si mommy kanina kung bakit bigla nalang tayong nawala. I'll see her. I don't want to explain everything over the phone."

"Look, dummy. I'm sincerely sorry for what—"

"Shh. There's nothing to be sorry for. I love you, girlfriend."

"You know that you're making me love you more everytime you say that. See you later, gorgeous. I love you."

Bumilis ang pintig ng puso ko nang sumilay ng muli sa labi niya ang ngiti niyang kanina ko pa gustong makita. I then realized one thing. I don't want him sad.

"Drive slowly, dummy."pahabol ko bago pumasok ng tuluyan sa bahay.

The urge to rush home this morning was explained when I saw Troy waiting for me at the living area. His eyes revealed that he is troubled.

"Troy?"

"Hey, I've been waiting for you for..."he paused and glanced at his watch. "Almost two hours. Finally, you're here."

Why is he acting panicky? What is going on? Before I could ask him those, he suddenly grabbed my arm making me feel rattled.

"I need to talk to you but I need to get you out of here."halos pabulong na anas niya.

"Troy, pinapakaba mo 'ko. Ba't di mo nalang sabihin sa'kin kung ano ang nangyayari? Ano? Tungkol na naman ba kay Sven at Heather?"sunod-sunod na naitanong ko.

"Please. Let's get out of here."

Driven by curiousity, I agreed to get out of the house. Troy did not revive the engine of the car when we got in.

"What is it, Troy?"I asked impatiently.

From the compartment, he took a small envelope and handed it to me. My forehead turned to frowns but I still took it. Like my hands have a mind on their own, they flipped the envelope open.

"I am clueless. I don't know what's that about and I can't even think of a reason to explain everything. Do you know what's that all about?"

Nanginginig ang mga kamay ko. Ano 'to? Hindi ko maipaliwanag ang nararamdaman ko. I stared at Troy hoping he'll take the confusion I have in mind. Hindi 'to totoo. But when I looked at the photos inside the envelope, they aren't changing. I still saw the same thing; I still saw Heather crying and hugging my father.

"Sven. Troy, I have to see him. Sven knew about all these. I have to see him."nagpapanic na bulalas ko.

Hinatid ako ni Troy pabalik sa condo ngunit pagdating ko sa unit ni Sven, wala siya do'n. Halos tatlong oras akong naghintay sa kanya. Dahil hindi ako mapakali, hinalughog ko ang closet niya para hanapin ang folder kung saan niya inilagay ang mga dokumento tungkol kay daddy.

"Miracle?"

Napalingon agad ako nang marinig ang boses niya. Halos magtagpo na ang mga kilay niya habang naglalakad siya palapit sa'kin.
