Graces POV

I got into Jake's car and drove down to the police station. while I was driving my phone started ringing and it was Rico calling me. I forgot we had made dinner plans together. I guess you can say Rico and I are kinda a thing now. we have been doing this secret shit behind Jake's back for almost 2 months. now hes in the hospital and might never wake up again. Their's no way Jake will die without knowing what Rico and I have done. I love Jake hes the father of my child and I would be upset but at the end of the day I think im choosing Rico and that sounds so fucked up.

Rico's voice on the other end of the line snapped me out of my thoughts that were racing through my mind about Jake. His voice soothed me, it was deep on the other end and I was shaking with the effect he had on me.

"Grace hello are you okay?" I heard him shout

"Yes im fine"

"Where are you?"

"im driving to the jail" I said quietly

"What Why? Your supposed to be on your way home for our dinner date?" He said clearly upset

"I know  babe but something bad happened" I shouted

"huh?"

"Ash is in jail he wants me to bail him"

"For what?" He asked

"I have no clue he just called me. he was supposed to come back to the hospital and he didn't and you know thats not like him"

"Yeah cuz he feels guilty for something" He said jumping to conclusions

"He didnt crash the car"

"He was driving" He spat

"We dont know the full story Ricco. I have to go get him are you gonna come meet me?" I asked

He was quiet on the line for a minute. all i heard was him breathing and getting further anf further from the phone. then he came back on the line shouting something that I only heard the end of because he was walking back over to the phone.

"What? I couldnt hear the first part" I said

"What if this is what we get?" He repeated

"what are you talking about?" I asked confused

"For cheating. For being unloyal me as a friend and you as a wife" he hissed

"Ricco" I said interrupting his constant rambling

He went silent. I took a second to breath and think about what he said. I don't think that karma works like that because what did Jake do to deserve to die?

"Your talking reckless and I cant concentrate on the road I'm already shaking" I said

He didn't respond for a second.

He said "I love you" and hung up

I looked in the rear view mirror at Nevaeh. She was just sleeping in her car seat. I looked back on the road and took the exits I needed to to get to the jail.

I pulled into the jail parking lot and ran inside with Nevaeh holding my hand. We walked down the hallway and I lifted her up and started talking to the lady behind the glass.

"Hey I'm here for an Ash?" I said

"Ash no Ash here. We got an Ashley, Asher, Ashton"

"Ashton" I yelled cutting her off

I just remembered his real name was Ashton ash was just a nickname. She looked at me weird and raised her eyebrow.

"Please don't raise your voice at me" She snickered

Her curly hair was tied in a big bun and she has her edges gelled down. Her face had beautiful eyeshadow on it and her red lipstick matching her dark skin perfectly. Her uniform was buttoned low showing off her large boobs.

"I'm sorry ma'm I had a long drive and I have no idea what's going on. I've had a bad two weeks" I apologized

"Mommy" Nevaeh whined

"Shh honey hold on" I said

Nevaeh pulled on my pants and I looked down at her in her denim onesie with a cheetah print onesie underneath and her cheetah print bow with pink sneakers. She's so old and I can't believe how fast and growing up.

"Ashton seems to not have a bond yet he still needs to go to jail. His trial is set on Friday at the courthouse" she said writing the address on a piece of paper and sliding it to me

She yelled "Next" and I moved out of the way.

"Vea come on" I said grabbing her hand

She tried walking while I held her hand back to the car. I don't know how I was gonna get in touch with him. Hopefully he would call me back so I could tell him that.

The drive back home was long and tiering but when I finally got home the house was very quiet. I walked upstairs and got Nevaeh changed into her pajamas and put her in her crib. Then I walked across the hall to Rico's room and he was laying on the bed asleep.

I walked quietly around him and grabbed a towel off the floor and one of my thongs. I stripped from my jeans and uncomfortable bra and tossed them aside while I rushed into the bathroom. I took a warm shower and got out drying myself off and my hair and then wrapping the towel around my body. I walked back to Rico's room and he wasn't asleep anymore.

"Oh shit Rico you scared me" I laughed

He was sitting up on the bed looking st the floor. He looked up at me and his eyes met mine and they weren't the same Rico eyes. They weren't looking at me all googly they were sad and drowned.

"Rico?" I said again

"I'm sorry Grace" He frowned

"For?"

"I don't even  wanna tell you this"

"Rico your scaring me"

He didn't answer me he just stood up and walked around the room. He stopped at the window and just leaned over it breathing heavy. He opened the window more letting the Chicago summer air blow at him.

"Rico what's wrong?" I asked

He didn't answer me he just stood their. I was scared. I felt alone. I felt like this relationship was all I had left.
