Ash's pov
We were sitting out in the yard. We got a couple hours in the yard where you could play ball, walk around, socialize, use the phone etc. it was still pretty cold In Chicago especially near the water like this.
I had my jacket wrapped around me and my sliders were stepping on the leaves that were all over the yard. I was walking along the fence where I knew they let you go out in death row. They don't get to have Rec with the rest of us so I don't always get to see Kamryn unless we're out in PI.
"Psst KK" I yelled
He spun around and let the ball dribble away from him.
"Yo stop calling me KK I'm gonna have to beat niggas up"
He walked over to the fence and put his fingers through the links. He didn't look good and I wasn't sure why. It's been a couple weeks since we started digging that hole with the rest of the PI crew and I think Kamryn's getting hit hard in the hole.
"Yo they feeding you?" I asked
"I really haven't been eating I'm going to die soon anyway my execution is in a couple months" he shrugged
"Shut the fuck up man I'm not gonna let you die, we're getting out of here before that happens" I reassured him
"We're not getting through that hole" he said shaking his head
"We fucking are man I got off death row and your not gonna but I'm not just gonna let you die"
"King off the fence" the guard yelled
Kamryn walked away and I told him I would be back because I went to go talk to the rest of the crew in PI. They were all sitting on the bench talking about how we were gonna break out of here.
"Yo yo yo" I smirked
"Ashton" Smith smiled at me
"So dudes how are we gonna get this done?" I asked
"Well the hole is complete we just need to figure out how we're gonna get into PI without the guards we need to get the supplies to get our the other end of the tunnels" The blonde one said that I didn't bother to learn his name
"So how are we gonna acquire these tools" I asked them
"Don't worry about that you just set up the shit on the outside and look pretty" he winked
I laughed. I know I'm a pretty boy but Donr bring it into the jail you fag.
"That's faggy" I chuckled
"My fault"
"We'll figure it all out just-"
"What about Kamryn"
They exchanged looks with each other like they weren't gonna take him along or something. Kamryn and I were both going or nobody was cuz I know about that hole. I'm not a snitch gang code but I ain't in the gang right now.
"I don't know man"
"Listen bitches if Kamryn don't come with us nobody's going. Just wanna make that clear now" I yelled
I got off the bench and eyed them for a second. I started to walk away and knew I was in charge of this. They wouldn't get anywhere without me anyway. Once they get out of the tunnel cops will be crawling for them their.
"King visitor" A guard yelled pulling me inside
I seen Kamryn see me because I was going over their to tell him about what just went down and now he won't know until I see him again. He walked over to where I walked by the fence and called for me and I looked but I couldn't say nothing. I just shrugged and went inside with him. I didn't know who was coming to visit me because Rico woulda called and so would have Mia.
When I got out to the visiting room Grace was sitting their pregnant with Nevaeh on her hip. She looked mad different her hair was a little shorter and it was died black. She smiled at me and she was pure gorgeousness but I could never. Plus I'm having s baby of my own and eventually gonna marry Mia.
"Dam hey Nevaeh" I smiled
"Uncle Ash" She cheered
"Dam She remembers me" I said shocked
"Of course she does. How have you been?" She smiled
"I've been better. Where have you been is the question. You just up and left"
"Rico cheated on me and then I kinda just left"
"Shit"
"Yeah I know tell me about it"
"So that baby is that Rico's?" I asked
"No it's actually Jakes. I found out I was pregnant before Jake died"
"Wouldn't it have been Rico's then?
"No because Rico and I called our romance off when Jake got into the hospital and then we hooked up once but at that time I had already missed my period"
"Wow so Jake left behind two kids. I feel like this is all my fault and I'm-"
She grabbed my hand and pulled it towards her. I felt my heart crack every time I thought of Jake honestly. He was my soul mate I swear. Jake and I were best friends.
"It's not your fault Jake was the one driving" she said
"I still feel guilty"
"Don't feel guilty"
"Why are you here anyway?"
"I wanted to talk to you I wanted to know why you were here and if it had to do with that night" she asked her eyes glossy
I didn't know what to say. I didn't wanna say what actually happened because I don't think she knows that but what's the point anymore Jakes dead and that night happened.
"It doesn't matter" I said coldly
"It does" She frowned
"I got a couple years alright I was on death row for a while and then I got a couple years for murder that's all"
"If Jake was alive he woulda been charged with murder!" She said shocked
"I mean probably that's what the judge said"
I didn't wanna tell her anything like because I was going to break out and it was kinda too secret. She would see me sooner then she thought. I'm gonna get my girl and dash
