I remember it like it was yesterday, when Max and I would push each other on the swings at the playground just around the block. Those days when we would play basketball together in the school courtyard. We'd dance crazily in my bedroom like there was no tomorrow. But all of this happened before his discovery. Before Max Schneider became THE Max Schneider.

When we were seven we would dance around my house to the music on the radio. I was just goofing off, but Max, he had some moves. My mom used to say, "Maxwell, I swear someday you are gonna be on Broadway!" And guess what? He was.

When we were eleven we would take the subway to central park. We would sit on the bench and he would pull out his ukelele. He used to say to me, "What shall I play you today?". I would give him my request, and he would sing. When he sang, a crowd would gather around to listen. He had a real talent. For music, for acting, for dancing. The spotlight loved him, and he loved the spotlight.

We always planned on being famous. It was our dream. We planned on doing it together. But little did I know that plan would change, whether I liked it or not.

The time with him I reflect on most is the time he auditioned for Broadway. After years and years of practice, he finally believed me when I told him he was good enough to make it to Broadway. We used to practice in his bedroom, working on his acting skills and singing skills. I would help him prepare with scripts and I would listen to him sing. But then came the big day. The day he auditioned for the Broadway Musical, '13'. I remember hugging him goodbye that morning before he went to his audition.

"You are amazing, Max. Don't forget that," I told him as we walked down to his car. He lived in the appartment across from mine.

"Thanks," he smiled my favorite smile. "I won't."

"And when you become all rich and famous, don't forget me either!" I playfully punched him in the arm. But I meant what I said.

"How could I forget you Mary?" Max replied before giving me one last hug and climbing into his car.

He went to that audition, and he rocked it. He got a part as the understudy for the role of Malcolm. He got to perform a few shows, dispite being the understudy. I went and I watched him perform every show he did. Sure I got sick of the plot and songs, but I went there to support Max, and he always kept it interesting.

One night while he was performing, there happened to be a talent scout present at the show. He liked what he saw, a bunch of talented young individuals. He contacted a bunch of them, interested in doing business. Some of them you might know. Like Elizabeth Gillies, or Ariana Grande. Max was still young, but smart enough to make a decision. At the age of 15, Max decided the path he wanted to take. He and his family moved to LA, and Max quickly got a few small jobs on some TV shows, then a role in a movie, and eventually a permanent role as Zander on How To Rock. My little sister watches that show everyday. Yet she lives her life without knowing the conection between me and her precious 'Zander'.

He has a new movie coming out this weekend too. It's called 'Rags'. I have no clue what it's about. But my little sister Sarah is extatic to see it. To put it in her words, she would say "OMG! Max Schneider is starring in a new movie! I have to see it! I love him!".

Often I reflect back on those memories I have had with Max. But mostly the day of his Broadway audion. And those famous words, "How could I forget you Mary?". That's what I would like to know. How could he forget me? We have been best friends since we were crawling in diapers. We were friends for 14 years, yet here I am now, and there he is. I haven't seen him since the morning of his audition. He was too busy to hang out during the weeks that the show ran. And then, he was too busy to say goodbye.

I never saw Max again, unless you consider watching him on Sarah's T.V. seeing him. Well, at least not untill that fateful day. This is our story. The story of Max and I.
