~Chapter 34~

"Can I open my eyes yet?" I asked Max as I walked blindly, his hands over my eyes.

"Nope," he replied, popping the p.

"How about now?" I asked again after we had walked a little bit further.

"Okay, now you can," Max said removing his hands from my eyes. I looked up. There was an old faded sign hanging above us. It read, 'Granny Mae's Candy Shoppe'.

"Oh Max!" I exclaimed and threw myself into his arms, giving him a huge kiss on the cheek.

"You like?" He asked.

"I love! Max this is amazing!" I exclaimed as I opened the door and walked in. When the door opened little bells jingled. This is the most magical place in the world. It's where Max and I met. I ran through the store, looking around. Then I saw it, the shelf. I know to most people being so excited over something like a shelf seems rediculous, but it isn't when it holds a meaning. When it changes the rest of your life.

Max and I were infants at the time, and our moms had taken us to the candy shop. My mom was looking at the chocolate bars on this shelf when I reached out of the stroller and knocked over a box of them. Max's mom happened to be right there when I knocked down the box. She picked it up and handed it to my mom. My mom thanked her and they began to talk. They then bought Max and I candy and we all sat down at a table and talked. Max and I were babies, so we technically weren't talking. But our moms became friends that day, just because of that shelf, and that box of chocolate.

Our moms were the best of friends, and we were together all the time. And from the time Max and I could talk, we were inseparable. We would do everything together. It's amazing how one little box of chocolate goes such a long way. Our moms were constantly telling us the story of how we met throughout our childhood. Once every month from the time I was 3 until I was 14 my mom and I would meet Max and his mom at the candy shop. We would all sit down and talk, it was a ritual we performed no matter what was going on at the time.

"So what can I buy you?" Max asked me, snapping me out of my reverie.

"Chocolate!" I exclaimed.

"I had a feeling you'd say that!" He laughed. I ran over to the shelf and reached for a box of chocolate. I accidentally knocked a box off the shelf I bent down to get it but Max beat me to it. I shifted my gaze from down where the box was in Max's hands up to his face.

"Well we are reliving the past today aren't we?" Max chuckled.

As he said that I flashed back to when he left me for those four years. "Hopefully not all of it," I mumbled and stood back up.

"I promise I won't ever leave you again," Max said, picking up the box and standing. He cupped my face with his free hand and kissed me on the forehead.

"You better not," I frowned.

"Come on, lets go buy this chocolate," He smiled, shaking the box of chocolates that fell.

"Okay," I replied linking my arm through his.

"Golly I can't believe my eyes!" The old lady behind the counter exclaimed as we walked up. Her name was Mae, she owned the candy shop. She has to be in her early eighties, yet she is still perfectly healthy and cheery for her age. We used to see her all the time when we came here as kids.

"It's Mr. Schneider and Ms. Addams! I haven't seen you kids in years! Or is it Mr. and Mrs. Schneider?" Mae said.

Max laughed and replied, "Not yet." I blushed and Max continued, "It's great to see you too Mae! I see this place is still up an running!"

"Of course it is! There is still a whole lot of energy in this old bag o' bones!" Mae laughed.

"Of course there is, I can tell," I told her with a smile.

"I always knew you too would end up together," Mae laughed to herself as she scanned the box of chocolate and Max handed her the money. "Well everybody knew it! Who didn't?"

"Us!" Max and I said at the same time then laughed.

"You two have a great day! I hope I'll see you two soon!" Mae smiled and handed us our box of chocolate in a bag.

"Thank you! You too!" I replied as we walked out of the store.

The rain had slowed and all that was left was a light drizzle. The sky was starting to clear as well. "So where to next Mr. Tour Guide?" I asked Max.

"Su-" Max began to say.

"Surprise, I know, I know," I rolled my eyes.

"Actually I was going to say the subway," Max laughed.

"Oh," I blushed, very embarrassed.

"It's okay. You look cute when you blush,"  he smiled my favorite smile.

"Thanks. I love it when you smile like that it's my favorite smile," I blurted without thinking.

"Really?" Max asked raising an eyebrow questioningly.

"I didn't mean to say that out loud," I mumbled.

"Ha, it's okay. I'm only messing with you!" He said and smiled my favorite smile. I looked up at him and a couldn't help but smile back. Max has that affect on people. When he smiled it's like he lights up the world. Or at least my world.
