~Chapter 20~
I practically skipped all the way to Max's hotel. I had to tell him about the part I am going to try out for. I know that this means Max will have to go back to L.A. in order to film the new season, but if I get the role I can come with him. I ran up the hotel stairs, too impatient to wait for an elevator. I found his room number and pounded on the door.
"Who is it?" his voice called from the other side of the door.
"Max, it's Mary!" I responded.
I heard the locks click and he opened the door. "Hey Mary! Wassup?" He asked.
I flew into his arms and wrapped mine around him. "You'll never believe what happened!"
"Talk to me," Max replied as we sat down on the couch.
"Well so I had the photo shoot it went well," I began and he nodded. "Trey liked the CD a lot!" I continued and he nodded again. "And then we went out to coffee and we looked online for a list of opening roles to audition for. And one of the roles was to play the love interest of Zander on How To Rock!" I screamed with excitement.
"That's amazing!" Max said. "I was actually gonna call you to talk about something," he ran his hand through his hair nervously. That's never good.
"I'm here now! Talk!" I replied.
"Well, I have to go to film the new season sooner then I expected. In two weeks. Which means I am gonna have to leave NY for a few months. And that means I'm gonna have to leave you," he cringed waiting for my reaction. He probably expected me to get up and smack him in the face.
"Don't you see, Max? If I get this part, you don't have to leave me! We can go together!"
"But how are we sure that you will get the part?"
"You are the one that will read off scripts with the girls at the auditions right?" I gave him a questioning look.
"How did you know I had to go do that?" he returned my look.
"I guessed, and we have known each other since we were in diapers! If we show the producers and casting crew the amazing chemistry between us there's no way they can't hire me!"
"Mary that's not how show business works! They don't give the role to just anyone!"
"Wow Max. Thanks for the support. I mean really, I thought you'd be excited and willing to help."
"Who says I'm not?"
"Actions speak louder than words Max," I said standing up and wiping the tears from my eyes. I started walking towards the door.
"I didn't mean it like that! Mary wait!" Max stood up and followed me.
"Oh really, 'they don't give the role to just anyone'? Max what else could you posibly have meant?"
"I meant don't get your hopes up! You don't have a clue how many roles I have tried out for and not gotten! I mean it's a 1 in a million chance that you will get the role on your first acting job. I don't want you to be dissapointed if you don't get it!"
"I have spent my whole life preparing for this and I will not let YOU, or anyone else for that matter, stand in my way! You're being incredibly rediculous about this!"
"Mary I am not in your way. I just don't want you to get hurt. I will be there for you every step of the way, like you have been for me. I'm being rediculous. Sorry, you were right," he sighed sitting down and burrying his head in his hands.
I walked over to Max and sat next to him on the couch. Maybe I was being a little rediculous about this myself. What's the chance I will land the part in my first acting job? I moved his hands away from his face and kissed him on the cheek. "You were right. I got carried away. Just think of how amazing this would be for the two of us though."
"You're right," he sighed then cupped my chin in his hand. He leaned in and kissed me softly. "That's why we're gonna get you that part.
"Heck yeah we are!" I laughed and took his hand. "Do you have a laptop here?"
"Yeah why?" He gave me a puzzled look standing up with me.
"We have a scene to practice!" I pulled him towards his room to go to the lap top. I am really going through with this. I will get this part. There is nothing, and no one that can stand in my way.
I checked my email as soon as I was on the laptop. There was an email entitled 'How To Rock Audition Script' from Trey. I opened it up and pulled Max down beside me. He was pacing back and forth until I yanked him down to sit on the bed next to me.
"Ok, the first lines yours," I said to Max.
"Ok," he replied then cleared his throat, getting into character.
"Hey baby, my name's Zander. And your's?" He read.
"My name is Hannah, I'm new to this school. The people here seem really nice so far. Molly and Grace gave me a tour of the school earlier," I read my line. We both stood up and turned the computer to face us.
"Really. Molly and Grace?"
"Yeah, they were really sweet to me."
"Really. Sweet?" Max raised one eyebrow in a shocked yet questioning face.
"Um, are you okay?"
"Yeah. Ok. That's what I am. Uhh... I'll be right back," Max read his line and then walked away like the stage directions.
"Nice to meet you!" I called after him.
The next line was Molly's so I mentally read it. It was 'Hey Hannah! Um, what were you just doing?'
"I was talking to that guy over there. Zander, was it?"
I read Molly's next line. 'We Perfs, don't speak to the people in that looser band.'
The next one was Grace's line. 'Hey Nelson!'
Then it was Molly's, 'Grace shut up!'
"Perfs?" I read with a questioning tone.
'It's the abbreviation for perfect. Which we are. So are you coming with us to the mall?' I read Molly's line.
"Yeah, I guess."
'Good. More shopping, less talking,' was the last line in the scene and it was Molly's.
"Good practice," Max said closing the laptop.
"Thanks, but I'm gonna need alot of it if I plan on landing this role!"
"Well then Ms. Mary, let's get started!" Max smiled.
