~Chapter 1~
I heard my sister Sarah's laughter coming from the other room. She was watching that show 'How To Rock' again. I walked into her room and she was literally rolling on the floor laughing. "What's so funny?" I asked her.
"Zander-" she cut off her sentence because she was laughing. "He wrote-" she began to laugh again. "A love song-" she snorted. "About a dog!" She was hysterically laughing. I didn't find this as funny as she did, but she has the most CONTAGIOUS laugh I have ever heard. I started laughing a little bit.
"Isn't it funny Mary?" she laughed. She is 13, yet she still finds this all hillarious.
"Sure," I replied. "Mom said to tell you dinner is ready."
"Kk, I'll be there in a minute!" she chimed before laughing at something 'Zander' said.
I walked into the kitchen and sat down in the seat across from Mom at the kitchen table.
"So how was school?" she asked me.
"Pretty good, kinda a slow day," I replied. I am currently 20 years old and I live in Manhattan, New York. I go to Juilliard School of Music. I sing, but I'm not anywhere as good as Max. My mom says that I'm good. Of course she does, she's my mom. Everytime I say I'm not she says, "Marissa Christine Addams, if you had no talent how on earth did you get into Juilliard? Explain that to me!" I still think I have no talent.
"So where's Sarah?" Mom asked.
"She's watching 'How To Rock' again," I sighed.
"It must be hard for you Mary," my Mom reached over and gave my hand a squeeze.
"Yeah," was all I said. We don't talk about Max that much. It's been four years and I have been trying to forget about him. But he is everywhere. There is no way to forget about him. He was my best friend. Probably the only friend I will ever really have.
"Sorry I'm late!" Sarah chimed as she jumped into her seat, litterally.
"No problem sweetie. Your here now, and that's all that matters," Mom replied. My mom is the most patient person I have ever met. If it was Mom that kept us waiting Sarah would probably get fed up. She has our dad's impatience. His impatience is what made him decide to leave us after Sarah was born. I haven't seen him since. That was one of the reasons Max's departure affected me so much. Just another person walking out of my life. Max was there to protect me when my dad wasn't. Max was like a brother to me. He got into a fight with the school bully because he was protecting me. Max came out with no cuts and bruises. And until the day he left nobody teased me because of him.
"I was watching How To Rock. Max is amazing! His voice is like- HEAVEN!" she began to stuff her face with dinner.
Mom glanced my way and our eyes met for a brief second then I looked down. "I'm sure it is, sweetie," was all my mom said about the matter.
"He is coming to town on tour!" Sarah chirped. "I TOTES HAVE TO SEE HIM. PLEASE MOM? PLEASE?"
Mom looked at me and I gave her a small nod. She knew exactly what it meant. It meant I was willing to take her. I mean it has been years since I saw Max. What's the odds of his recocnizing me? It's not like Mom would make me go back stage to see him.
"I will buy you and your sister tickets. But I can't afford back stage passes, you understand that right?" She told Sarah.
"I UNDERSTAND! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU MOMMY! AND YOU TOO MARY!" Sarah jumped up and hugged mom, then hugged me.
"What are you thanking me for?" I asked, confused.
"For taking me! I know you don't like him that much."
"I never said that," I replied.
"Oh, I just figured since-"
"Nevermind!" I cut her off not wanting to talk any longer about my old friend.
"So how was school?" My mom asked her, changing the subject. I mouthed a thank you to her as Sarah began to tell us about her day.
