~Chapter 24~
"I'm at a Payphone trying to call home! All of my change I spent on you! Where has the time gone baby it's all wrong! Where are the plans we made for two! If happy ever after did exist! I would still be holding you like this! All those fairytales are full of it! One more stupid love song I'll be sick! Now I'm at a payphone!" Meg and I sung along with the radio that was blaring through out my appartment.
I laughed as I plopped down on my bed. Honestly it felt like we were thirteen again, just goofing off like this. Meg was sleeping over at my house tonight. I was throwing a last day of school party. I technically wouldn't call it a party though since it was just the two of us. I had originally invited Max over but he had to fly back to L.A. to meet with the rest of the How To Rock cast and discuss the new season. I still haven't gotten that call. I guess by now I can only assume the worst.
"So wassup with you and Max?" Meg asked sitting cross-legged on the floor, with a bowl of popcorn in between her legs.
"Not much. He's off in L.A. and I'm stuck here," I sighed.
"You make that soud like a bad thing!" Meg said, stuffing a handful of popcorn into her lap.
"Don't you ever wish you could escape the buzzing cars and bright lights of this city?"
"Yeah, but you do realize that's exactly how L.A. is right?"
"True, but you get my point. I mean, to just go somewhere that's not- here."
"Mary your dreams are big but your talent's bigger. I can promise you, that you will go someplace that's 'not here' soon. Trust me."
"Meg, you're awesome." I sighed again.
"I know I am. Now stop sighing you sound like a depressed woman in her 40's with no future!"
"Oh shut up!" I threw a pillow at her causing her to spill the popcorn.
"Dude not cool!" Meg exclaimed. "I love ya like a sister Mary, but the time for war is upon is!" She jumped up then grabbed another pillow and hit me.
"Oh so that's how you're gonna play it!" I began throwing pillows at her, and really anything I could reach. She was doing the same. All the pillows were gathered in a heap behind Meg. When I thought she wasn't looking I made a leap for them.
She grabbed me mid-air and I landed in the pile with a loud thud! I'm sure we will be hearing from our downstair's neighbors later. Meg had my wrists pinned down and was sitting on my legs so I couldn't move.
"Admit I'm the best at pillow fights!" She joked.
"No I won't because you're not!" I laughed.
"So I will have to hold you savage until you admit it! If that's how you want it to be!" We were both laughing. We were goofing off like two little kids, wrestling and having pillow fights. Just then my cell phone rang. She looked over her shoulder, temperarilly distracted. I pushed her off of me, jumped up, and ran to my phone. On the caller ID it read 'Nickelodeon Studios'.
"Shut up! This is really important!" I yelled at a laughing Meg. She instantly fell silent.
"Hello?" I answered the phone.
"Hey Mary, it's Max," the voice on the other end said.
"Oh," was all I could say. I was slightly dissapointed. I thought it was the How To Rock director calling to say I got the part. I need to let that go. I probably didn't get it if they haven't called by now.
"Well you sound happy to speak to me," Max laughed.
"Sorry, I though you were someone else." I started to sigh but I held it back. It does make me sound depressed.
"What? Were you expecting your other boyfriend?" He joked.
"Shut up Max," I rolled my eyes.
"I'm not quite sure shutting up is what you want me to do right now."
"What? Why?"
"Oh well if you want me to shut up, I'll shut up."
"Max just cut it out! Tell me already!" I yelled at him through the phone. I hate when he does this. If he were here I probably would have smacked him.
"Okay so I spent the day with the cast and the director. They made the final decision. I'm sad to inform you that-" he paused mid sentence.
"Oh," I held back tears. I didn't get the part.
"That I wouldn't let the director give you the big news himself!" Max finished. "Congratulations Mary you got the part!"
I jumped up and started screaming! I recieved a puzzled look from Meg. I gave her the 'give me a minute' sign with my hand.
"Mary, I think you just ruined my hearing."
"Sorry! I'm just so excited I could kiss you right now!" I was so happy I was jumping up and down.
"They are sending a plane for you tomorrow. I'll see you then," he laughed at my giddy excitement.
"Wow this is amazing! I guess I will se you tomorrow then!"
"Okay see ya baby. Save me that kiss!"
"Bye!" As soon as I hung up I started screaming again. I grabbed Meg's hand and pulled her out to where Mom and Sarah were sitting in the living room.
"I got the part! I got the part!" I screamed. Sarah dropped the remote and jumped up to hug me. Meg jumped up to hug me too. We all started screaming with excitement.
"You're going to Hollywood!" My mom cheered.
"You're getting what you wished for Mary, you're going somewhere that's 'not here'!" Me laughed an hugged me.
She was write. I was finally escaping this town. I was going to live my dream. I thought this type of thing only happened in cliche books and movies. But I'm living proof that dreams come true in the real world.
