~Chapter 6~

My heart raced as Sarah pulled me through the crowd to the stage when the concert was over. This I was not looking forward to. When we reached the stage the lady asked me to tell her Sarah's number to prove we were the winners. I read it to her and she approved then handed us the passes. Sarah grabbed them and handed me one. I hung it around my neck. The lady pointed us the direction of the backstage line.

We were in the very end of the line. This didn't bother me though. The more time the better.

"Hold my place, I got to go to the bathroom," I told Sarah.

"Hurry back!" she replied.

I hurried to find my way to the bathroom. When I got there I looked at myself in the mirror. I was wearing a white spotted sundress over long denim shorts. My hair was down in long blonde waves. I was wearing a gray skater cap on my head. I think I look alright. I had almost no makeup besides a little lipgloss and mascara. I don't normally wear that much make up. I have fair skin and I don't use foundation. After making sure I was completely satisfied with how I looked, I hurried back to join Sarah.

When I reached her there were two groups ahead of us. Max was right there. 15 feet away from me. I haven't seen him in so long. What if he doesn't remember me? Instead of worrying I decided to listen to his conversation with a lady that was part of the group in the front of the line.

"It must be amazing to have so many fans!" She said.

"Yeah, it's a bit overwhelming sometimes," he let out a little laugh.

"I bet you have a lot of friends."

"Naw, not really, not to many close ones," Max blushed.

"What about your friends from home? They must be so proud of you!"

"I kinda lost ties with them after I made it big time. Worst mistake I ever made."

"Aww, don't be down about it. I bet they understand."

"I guess so."

The woman took a few pictures with him, and got an autograph before leaving. The group in front of us went up to meet him and we moved forward. 10 feet between us and Max. Sarah was jumping up and down excited. I felt so embarassed about her. Managed to ignore her giddiness though. The same thought kept running through my mind. What if he doesn't remember me? Will he remember me?

"Next!" Max's huge bodyguard called. Sarah skipped up and I slowly trailed behind her.

"It is so amazing to meet you!" Sarah said then handed me her camera to take a picture. I snapped one then handed it back to her.

"What's your name?" Max asked her pulling a poster off the pile to sign.

"Sarah!" She replied. He wrote on the poster, 'Stay cool Sarah! XOXO Max Schneider'

"And your's?" he asked me without looking up.

"Mary," I replied. At this point I'm a thousand percent positive he doesn't remember me.

"Mary. That's a pretty name. I used to have a..." he slowly stood up to look at me as if he just made a huge discovery. "Friend... named... Mary," he finished. He stood back to look at me. I blushed nervously. "Marissa Addams?"

"Hey Max," I said shyly. I didn't know what was gonna happen next. I stood there shyly, looking at the ground.

"Mary Christine Addams!" he exclaimed. He picked me up and swung me around in a hug. "I thought I would never see you again!"

"I see you everyday on T.V!" I laughed slowly coming out of my shell. Sarah stood there with her mouth open in awe. She didn't see this coming. Neither did I.

"Oh my god, I, I, I mean- it's so good to see you again! I was a jerk to just cut off all contact like that. I should have called you," he ran a hand through his messy hair, just like he used to do when he was frustrated or embarrassed four years ago.

"It's not your fault, things really took off for you," I assured him.

"I ran into someone the other day who looked like you, like literally ran into them. But I wasn't sure if it was you so I didn't say anything. You look so different!"

"So that was you I hit with my bike? I am so sorry! But you," I stood back and gave him the up and down. "You haven't changed a bit!"

"It that a good or a bad thing?" He raised an eyebrow.

I laughed. "No, no, don't get me wrong. You look great!"

"Well, so do you Ms. Mary." We stood there and stood there for a few moments just staring at eachother. Overwhelmed by so many emotions.

"Ehem!" Sarah cleared her throat.

"Oh sorry!" I pulled Sarah over in front of me. "You remember Sarah don't you Max?"

"Of course I do! You look so grown up! I bet you don't remember me do you. What about that time we danced at your sister's Bat Mitzvah? You don't remember that either do you?" He said to her, Leaning down a little to be at her height.

"I- I-" Sarah stuttered. "I danced with Max Schneider!?! Wait until I tell my friends!"

Max stood back up and blushed. "Sorry about her. She didn't know I knew you. I mean, I know you. She's a major fan." I told Max.

"Aww, it's alright, I'm used to it," he sighed.

"I'm sure you are," I looked at my watch. "We need to get going. My mom is expecting us to be home by 11:00."

"Can't you spare like, fifteen more minutes?" He asked me.

"Five minutes." I said.

"That's good enough," he said. He leaned against the table his posters were placed on. I did the same.

"I gotta use the bathroom, be right back," Sarah said.

Max continued to talk as soon as she was gone. "I remember when you and I would sit on the sidewalk infront of our building and eat icecream during the summer," Max laughed.

I laughed too. "I would get a Two-Ball Screw ball. And you would get a-"

"Fudge Bar," we said at the same time and laughed, just like old times.

"I missed you Mary," he sighed. "Cutting all ties with you was the biggest mistake I have ever made. But you forgive me right?"

"Of course I do!" I playfully punched him in the arm like I used to.

He grabbed a poster and scribbled something on it. I wasn't able to read it, he rolled it up before I could. He rapped a rubber band around it and handed it to me.

"Let's go Mary!" Sarah said, showing up right then.

"Coming!" I called to her. I gave Max a big hug like I used to and headed towards the exit where Sarah was waiting.

"I can't wait to see you again!" Max called after me.

"I hope it's soon!" I called over my shoulder. "Bye Max!"

"Bye Mary!" he laughed as Sarah pulled me out the door. Sarah gave me a look that meant I had a lot of explaining to do when we got home. Yay. NOT! But at least I got to see Max again. And guess what? He remembered me.
