~Chapter 33~
"Where on earth are you taking me?" I asked Max as we weaved our way through the city.
"To a place you will love," he replied.
"Okay, I trust you," I sighed.
He suddenly stopped and said, "We're here." I looked up and saw the sign for the store he stopped in front of. It was my dad's old music store. I don't talk about that store anymore, or even think about it really. It's as gone as my dad in my mind. The store is now run by a young couple in their early thirties. Max opened the door and I walked in. I looked up and around at the instruments hanging on the walls.
It looked just like it did when my father owned it. Guitars hung on the faded blue walls and there was a bunch of keyboards pushed up against the back wall. There were isles amoung isles of musical instruments. Max picked up a ukulele and began to strum it. He played 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow'. I smiled and picked up an accustic guitar. I began to play the chords along with him.
"Can I help you kids?" the man who owned the place asked us.
"Yes please, how much for the guitar?" Max asked, fingering the guitar I was holding.
"$200 for the guitar, and if you want there is a $25 instruction CD for the little lady it looks like she may need a little help," he answered.
"She won't be needing that," Max replied. The man's comment got me angry so I grabbed an electric guitar off the shelf next to me and played the beginning of Eye of The Tiger to prove to the man I can play.
"Okay apparently she doesn't need it. Will you be buying the accustic?" The man said, shocked.
"Yeah, $200 right?" Max asked pulling two, hundred dollar bills out of his pocket. The man seemed shocked that he carries this much money in cash. Apparently he has no clue who we are.
"Yes sir," the man said carrying the guitar over to the register with Max and I trailing behind.
Just then a girl about Sarah's age exclaims, "Oh my gosh! Are you Max Schneider and Marissa Addams? Mom it's them! Can I have your autograph?"
"Ha, sure," Max said. The girl handed me a slip of paper. I signed it then handed it to Max and he did the same.
"You're Mary Addams?" The man asked me, wide eyed and I nodded. "Oh my, I am so sorry about what I said earlier! Here, how about I give you the guitar for half off!" He exclaimed.
"No, you don't have to do that!" I told him.
"No miss, I insist!" I said.
"It's fine, what you could do is throw in a guitar case," I said, realizing we hadn't bought one yet.
"Sure thing! Is that it?" The man asked, grabbing a guitar case and putting my new accustic inside.
"Yes thank you!" I replied putting my arms through the straps of the guitar case.
"No thank you! Have a nice day! I am so sorry again!" The man called after us as we were on our way out the door.
"Thanks you too!" Max called back, holding the door open for me.
"So where to next?" I asked Max as he linked his hand with mine.
"You'll see. It's a surprise," Max replied.
"Of course it is," I rolled my eyes. "With you everythings a surprise."
"I try," Max smirked. Just then there was a loud roll of thunder. It made me jump and move closer to Max.
"Baby you're fine, I got you," Max assured me, wrapping his arm around me. I didn't reply, just moved in closer to him. He chuckled and I felt his chest shake as he did so. "So what do you think of our date so far?" He asked.
"It has been magical. It was great to relive those old memories, and visit those places," I sighed. Just then it started to rain. "My guitar!" I exclaimed. We ran until we found a store with an overhang. I pulled off my guitar on leaned it against the brick wall of the building.
"There's something I have always wanted to do," Max said, taking my hand.
"What's that?" I asked.
"You'll see," He smiled, pulling me into the open where the rain was pouring down.
"Another surprise?" I asked. "I'm getting kinda tired of surprises," I complained. I pulled my hand out of Max's and stood there in the pouring rain with my arms crossed, pouting.
"Ha, only you Mary," he chuckled. He pulled me closer and his arms wrapped around me. His lips met mine and the rain began to come down harder. I wrapped my arms around his neck and laced my fingers together. We pulled apart from the kiss, yet our arms were still wrapped around each other. I leaned my head against his chest, and he rested his chin on the top of my head. The rain was pounding down on us now and the sky was lit with lightning, but that didn't bother us.
"Let's get to the next place before we get any wetter," Max said, taking my hand and walking over to where my guitar was resting against the wall.
"Could we get any wetter?" I asked him, looking at us. Our clothes were soaked and heavy and our hair was plastered to our heads, my usually blonde curls darkened and straightened by the water.
"I guess you have a point there," Max laughed, wiping his damp hair out of his face. His usually brown curls were now black and straight. I think he looks amazing both ways.
"I know I do, let's go!" I grabbed his hand and began to walk. But he stopped short and pulled me to a stop as well. I gave him a questioning look.
"We are going that way," Max smiled, pointint in the direction we were walking opposite to.
I blushed then started walking the way he was pointing and said, "I knew that."
