Chapter 19: Crossing State Lines

Y/N's POV

We got to the window and before we were going to jump off we see a ladder. Yes, thank God there is a ladder. We then climb our way down. We crossed the school's fence and it leads us to the backyard of a house. We enter the house and everyone began sitting on the floor catching their breath. I face Freddy and he had a shocked face. I looked at where he was facing and there I see a dead body. "Who's that?" I ask him. 

"That was my partner." He says plainly.

I see Taehyung with the same face as Freddy. Freddy walks over to the dead body and scans it. "He has bite marks," Freddy informs with irritation. I see pills lying everywhere. 

"I guess he didn't want to change," I say motioning towards the pills. Freddy began walking to the garage. 

"V, come here," Freddy shouts to Taehyung. We all follow Taehyung to the garage. Inside the garage, is a pickup truck. "Hand me the battery." Taehyung listens and pulls the battery out and hands it to Freddy. He tries to start the truck before he speaks. "Well the battery is dead, but the cells are not. So we just need to push the truck to get it started and the alternator will recharge the battery." Freddy tells us. Wow, I would have never guessed he was this smart, but then again he can craft almost anything.

"Yoongi can you drive?" I question. 

"I guess." He replies. 

"Okay, that will do. You will drive, Hobi you will sit in the passenger seat and Ellie will sit in the back. Once we get the truck started Jungkook and Freddy will get in the truck and sit with Ellie while I and Taehyung sit in the cargo." I inform everyone. We won't have protection because we will be outside, but that is okay. 

"Are you okay with that?" Hobi questions. I nod my head and look over to Taehyung. He smiles in agreement. 

"Let's go then," Freddy tells us.

Yoongi, Hobi, and Ellie all get in the pickup truck. Freddy and Taehyung open the garage door and we all start to push the truck. 

"We just need to push it downhill," Jungkook says. We all began pushing the truck down the street to get it down the hill when a sound startles us all. Infected are coming.  

"Watch out, Clickers!" Ellie shouts. I turn to my left and see some running towards us along with Runners. Freddy and Jungkook start shooting at them while I and Taehyung continue to push the truck. Hobi is shooting from inside the truck. After they get them all Jungkook and Freddy help push again. Soon, we hit the hill and let it drive down. 

"Start the truck!" I shout. Yoongi starts it and it works. Yoongi stops the truck and the 4 of us run towards it. 

"The Infected must have heard the truck starting. Hurry!" Freddy shouts to us. Jungkook and Freddy get into the truck and Taehyung and I hop in the cargo. "DRIVE!" Taehyung shouts.

~~~~~30 Minutes Later~~~~~

"Stop the truck," Freddy says and Yoongi listens, but keep it running. Freddy, Jungkook, and I got out of the truck. 

"Well, I guess this is where we part ways," I state.

"Yeah, and remember this, I owe you guys nothing now. We are even." He tells us. 

"Of course Fred," Jungkook says with a grin while Freddy glares at him. "Take care of them V!" Freddy shouts to Taehyung. 

"Yes, sir," Taehyung solutes but jokingly. "Take care," Taehyung says with a sad smile. Freddy nods his head.

Jungkook and I were making our way back to the truck when I stop him. "I will stay in the back with Taehyung, let Ellie rest a bit."

"Okay, but if the weather gets bad you 2 are coming inside." He says, causing me to smile and agree to his deal.

I hop in the back and sit down with Taehyung. He looks at me and then shyly put his head down. "Lets go." I hear Jungkook say to Yoongi. Yoongi starts driving. 

"What's wrong? It looks like you want to say something." I question to Taehyung. 

"Um...well...I think you pretty. I mean, um..." I giggle a bit. Did he really say something like that at a time like this? He puts his head down. His English is adorable. 

"How? I must look horrible right now from all the fighting." He looks at me and shrugs his shoulders. I ruffle his hair causing the both of us to smile. I look out to the horizon just to savor the view.

~~~~~3 ½ Hours Later~~~~~

Taehyung and I are now in the truck because it started to rain a while ago. We somehow fit all 4 of us in the truck.

Moments later Ellie lets out a frustrated groan. "What?" I ask. 

"This comic book is pretty good, just one problem. 'To Be Continued.' I hate cliffhangers." I won't even ask where she got the book from. 

"Tell you what, on our journey, if we find something like a comic book we'll give it to you." She smiles and agreed.

"Welcome to Pittsburgh," Hobi says. I look out the window and see the sign. We are in Pennsylvania. It's actually amazing how we traveled from Boston, Massachusetts to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There was a lot of running and shortcuts along the way so I am not that surprised. I noticed that Taehyung and Jungkook fell asleep. 

"Ellie, sleep," I tell her. She nods her head and we both fall asleep.

~~~~~1 ½ Hour Later~~~~~

I wake up to Hobi driving and Yoongi sleeping. We have been driving for so long and I wonder how this car still has gas. I look out of the window and see we are now in a city, but it was a city in ruins. I turn my head to see that the other 3 are awake. 

Out of nowhere, a man stops in front of the car. Hobi slams on the break which wakes Yoongi up. "HELP!" He shouts at us. 

"Should we help him?" Ellie questions. 

"We can't," Jungkook says. 

"He's not even hurt," I add while guessing what was about to happen next. "Step on the gas Hobi," I shout to him. Once he did more men appear on the side. We hit the guy and was about to go up the ramp when a bus began rolling down. Hobi tries accelerating from it, but the bus rear-ended up sending us skidding into a store.

"Is...every...one...okay?" I say out of breath. I hear some 'yeah' and feel relieved. "Lets go." As we were getting out of the truck a couple of men grabbed each one of us. 

"Let me go!" I hear Ellie and Hobi shout. I was struggling to get free when the man slammed my head into a glass door. Probably where they sold the cold drinks. I yell in pain. The glass was gone, but there was still some sharp shards attached on the door frame. The man tries to push my head into it as I use all my strength in my head to hold myself forward. I used my left arm to elbow him in the face. I quickly grab his face and slam it into the sharp glass, killing him on the spot.

I notice that everyone else is fighting the men while Ellie is struggling to break free. Out of nowhere, she bites him. The man then slaps her across the face making her fall onto the ground. Anger fills as I run to the man while he is crouching down to choke her out. I kick him hard in the face. I then slam his face onto the corner of the counter causing blood to splatter everywhere. I faced everyone else as they kill the other guys. This won't be the end, more will definitely come.
