Chapter 41: Promise

Jungkook's POV

We spent the night in the forest since we all needed a rest. Saving Ellie was not just physically draining, but emotional as well. Me and Yoongi hyung haven't told Jimin this, but we saw him when he was about to kiss Y/N. I stopped him before he could and acted like I didn't see anything. Though, Yoongi Hyung is something different. You could tell by his voice that he was upset.

I know he likes her. The problem is that I like her as well. I've known her for the longest and I was the one always protecting her, now all my hyungs protect her as well. We all need to have a one-on-one chat with her.

We are currently in the forest still, sitting by a bonfire. I already told them about the one-on-one chat with her and they all agreed to it.

"Hey Y/N," I say as she stares deeply at the fire. She lifts her head at me. "Can I speak with you alone?" I ask her

"Of course." She says. She stands up and we walk a bit further away from everyone else. It is currently the night and snow covers all the trees and grass. The sky is crystal clear that you can see the beautiful stars shining.

"It's been a while since we last took a breather like this." Y/N says while looking at the stars. I smile at her words.

"Y/N, I have to tell you something," I say which makes her look over to me.

"All of us want to have a one-on-one chat with you. So the others will come to talk to you." I tell her. She looks at me with confusion.

"Why? Did I do something wrong?" She asks me.

I shrug my shoulders. "I guess you have to wait and see." I smile at her. She rolls her eyes and looks back up. "I do miss when it was just us two against the world," I tell her.

Without looking at me, she responds. "Yeah, but now we are a family." I nod my head and put my arm around her shoulders. She flinches at first, probably because I startled her.

"Don't flirt with me Kookie." She says teasingly. Truth be told, I am thrilled because she used my nickname. It's been a while. The reason why I get so happy is simply the fact that she once told me that she cared for me and felt that we are so close that no one can rip us apart. Thus, the nickname resembles our friendship.

"I can't help it. You're so cute." I say while squshing her in my embrace.

"Shut up. I already know." She says laughing. I am truly falling for my best friend. But I am not the only one, that's for sure.

"Promise me something," I tell her.

"What is it?" She asks me while looking at me. I am still holding her close to me.

"Promise me that you will always stay by my side no matter what," I say seriously.

She looks me in the eyes and smiles. "I promise." Joy fills my heart.

"One more thing. Promise me that you will love me more than anyone else."

She lets go of me and turns around to face the stars. It's quiet for a bit before she finally speaks up. "I can't promise you that. One day, in this wretched world we live in, I could finally fall in love. I will be in love with that person more than anything." My heart broke a bit when she said that. "But, one this is for sure. No one can replace you in my heart. So remember, you are unique to me and nobody will replace your spot in my heart, I promise." She says. She turns around and faces me.

My heart beats faster and I look at her with pure happiness. I want to be with her yet I can't. "Thank you," I say. "Well let's go back. The others must be waiting." I tell her. She nods her head

We walk back and I feel better after our talk. Hopefully, she knows how important she is to me.

"We're back." Y/N says which snaps me out of my trance and realize we are back at our bonfire.

"Great! I guess it's my turn." I look over to see who said that.

"Really? Well, let's go." Y/N says. I can still tell that she is very confused about why we all want to talk to her, but she will realize it later.

"Protect her so she won't get hurt Hyung," I say to him as I sit down on the log by the fire.

"I will." He says and walks away with her. I wonder what he is going to say to her.
