Chapter 27
I sat on a bench with the sun shining on my body. The wind was blowing but not to fiercely just a slight breeze to cool you down. It was the perfect day for a wedding. Yup today was Jake's wedding, I mean if he was happy I could be happy. Maybe I should just get over it and get on with my life. I knew that I could push those feelings away. I looked across the street. Nothing yet. The church seemed so peaceful. Maybe Jake really didn't love me anymore. Maybe he would go through it. I waited across the street waited for him and his new bride to emerge from the church. It seemed like forever before I heard the church bells ring. Moments later I saw Jake and his bride emerge from the church hand and hand. Both of them had smiles on their faces, they were both happy. I felt something wet fall on my hand. I looked down and saw more drops hit my hand. I was crying. I was crying over Jake once again. I had to stop this. He was happy, that should make me happy... right? As I sat here on the bench I couldn't help but think about Etta James and her lyrics to her song:
I heard church bells ringing
I heard a choir singing
I saw my love walk down the aisle
On her finger he placed a ring
I saw them holding hands
She was standing there
With my man
I heard the promise till death do us part
Each word was pang in my heart
All I could do was cry
I was losing the man that I love
And all I could do was cry
The words seemed to fit my situation all too well. Even though my heart was broken and aching so badly. Even though Jake had broken my heart. I would do it all over again knowing that it was going to end in heartache. I loved him. I would do anything for him and nothing or nobody was going to change that. He was the love of my life and I would always remember him. No matter what. He was and would always be my little honeydew melon.
