I trudged through the streets of the city just outside Watchpoint. Tracer blinked past me, giggling she jabbed her finger against the class of a nearby shop window.

"(Y/N), look!" She smiled broadly as she eyed a small gray kitten, rolling over onto its back and flailing its paws. "Aww! She's so cute!"

"You want her?" I rummaged through my purse and pulled out a credit card.

"Wait, what?" Lena gasped, "What did you just say?"

"I mean, it'd be nice to have a pet around the base." I shrugged, "I can help with the adoption papers."

"Oh, thank you thank you thank you!!" She threw her arms around my midriff, squeezing tightly. "Let's go!!"

She blinked into the store, causing the bell to ring as the door opened. I followed suit, smiling as the kitten pawed at the glass.

. . .

"Aww, I love her!" Lena held the kitten up to her face, nuzzling the small animal gently.

"What are you gonna name her?" I shoved the completely adoption papers away as we exited the store.

"How about...(C/N)?" Lena smiled, "It's purrfect!"

She snickered at her own pun. The kitten crawled up onto her shoulders, purring loudly as it nestled in the crook of her neck. "Hey! That tickles!"

I watched the exchange quietly smiling. But that smile soon started to fade little by little when a memory slowly came to mind. Gabriel and I stood outside a similar pet shop, with me holding up a puppy and Gabe just rolling his eyes.

"I don't get why you want such a troublesome thing," Gabriel muttered. "They're so...filthy, and to loud."

"Aww, come on Commander!" I held the small dog up to his face. He grimaced as it stuck out it's tongue and licked his cheek. "You're Just jealous I'm gushing over an animal and not you."

"What?" His amber eyes widened.

"Don't worry about it," I giggled, setting the dog back in its pen before trotting off light-heartedly.

I shook my head, "Hey Lena?" The time jumping Brit skidded to a halt, looking over her shoulder and past the kitten to glance at me. "I'll catch up with you in a bit. I just need to...clear my mind."

"No problem love!" She smiled, "I was gonna go get some coffee, love. You want any?"

"Yeah, just a simple expresso." She nodded and zipped away.

Not a moment to soon was she back, (C/N) still perched on her shoulder as a broad smile spread across her face.

"Cheers, love!" She held out a cup of coffee.

I graciously took it, laughing to myself as I nodded. "Cheers, love!" We lightly bumped our cups together before taking a sip simultaneously.

"Care to come to the cinemas with me, love?" Lena wiped a droplet of coffee from her chin.

"No, well, at least now now." I shrugged, "I think I'm gonna take a walk, clear my head."

"Haven't had much time to yourself, have you?" Lena giggled, "That's alright! I'll see at dinner?"

"Of course!"

. . .

I sighed, shoving my hands into my pockets as I walked along the sidewalk. My foot splashed into a puddle, rippling the water and causing me to look down. My shoulders drooped as I saw my reflection. Half of it was faded, like an incomplete puzzle. I kicked at the water, cursing beneath my breath.
