I thought I had it all conquered, that all I had to do was cut the head off the snake and get on with it. To stamp out any notion I felt and push aside the guilt that reaped my soul every time I glanced at Jack.

His soft approach for the last few days were becoming stifling and I knew before the words had even left his mouth, that he was going away.

This time, it was South Dakota. One week to win a contract with a contractor to supply his company with the best wood in town, apparently two had failed before him and this time, Jack believed he could win the man around. Using the phrase the third is the charm.

Of course it didn't phase me as I myself would be away for a few days, meaning that when he came home, I would be home too.

However this time, I would be fully committed to him and not having hot sexual dreams about my boss. Oh yeah, that was a shocking revelation at 2.30am.

I hadn't heard a dime from Zak since I collected my car and we were now hitting day 7. I just knew that today we were to meet at his house as per usual. Before heading off to our location.

"Babe? I'm leaving now." Jack spoke making me slip out the kitchen and to the front door.

"Okay. Have a safe flight and text me when you land okay?"

He nods "Of course." I smile when his hand holds my cheek before his thumb smooths over it gently. "I'll miss you. But it will be more for a little JJ or DJ. I can't wait."

I fake a smile "Y-yeah."

Our kids, you know the ones I never wanted to have? Well he was deciding names for them now. Jack Junior and because he didn't have a girls name, she was DJ.. Delilah Junior.

I just wanted to punch myself in the tit.

"Jack, we spoke about this. I'm not ready for a bab—"

"I have to go. We will talk more when I get home." He interrupts kissing me on the lips before heading out the door leaving me to chew my lip.

He did it every time, avoiding the conversation if he thought I hadn't changed my mind. And I wouldn't.

I'm not mother material.

The sooner he got that, the better...

I arrived at Zak's house a little after 12pm. The sun was now sweltering and I had opted for denim shorts, cowboy boots and a checked shirt. I looked like I should be on a ranch then walking in the Vegas desert.

Getting out, I placed my bag onto my shoulder and locked up the car.

"Trouble in paradise?" Zak spoke stepping out the garage and standing in front of his pick up.

"No, everything is good." I lie.

"Try telling your face that." He smiles before turning around and heading back inside leaving me to take a breath.

I knew today would be his way of testing my limits, what would make me crack, what would distance me from him, if he could he away with some underhanded comments without me socking him in the gut.
