Maxon's POV
My maids help me get into my tux and all my pins and sashes that I have since I'm the prince. Lastly after they fitted everything and pinned everything on and they have done my hair, they put the last and final touch. The crown. They wheel in a cart and on it, on red velvet- sat my crown that I have had since I was born. They slowly take it of the cart and carefully place it on my head. They fix my hair to make sure no stands are left unkept.
Now. Now I am ready.
Who was I kidding. I would never be ready to marry Kriss. She was crazy and ruthless. There had to be some way that I could get out of this. Anything.
I walk down to where the ceremony was taking place and I take my place behind the curtain that separated me and the priest from the guest. I peeked through the curtain and saw a certain red head. America. I had to say hi. I made my way out behind the curtain-of course with certain protest from the priest-but I went anyway.
"Hey. How are you?" I ask running over to her. Normally I would never run, because of my dad's rule that people should be running after you not the other way around.
She looks up at me through her eye lashes. She looked so beautiful. "I'm good. I might just-" before she could finish she trips and almost toppled over before I caught her.
"You alright?" I take a look at her heels and they look pretty high. Just they don't make her as tall as me. "Those look uncomfortable, maybe take them off?" I say and tried to meet her eyes.
"Yeah I know right! But no I can't. I mean as long as I get settled in my seat I'll be fine." She reassures me. I take her arm and walk her to one of the seats in the front.
"There you go. Right up front. Exactly where I want you to sit." I smile at her and finally she smiles back at me.
"Hey can we sit up front with America?" A darling voice said behind me. I look and see Marlee and Carter hand in hand standing in front of me.
"Did you guys break the selection rules just to be with your true love?" I asked jokingly. They knew I know. It's now a little joke. I would never tell my father. Who knows what would have happened to them.
"Yes. Yes we did. We aren't proud we broke rules... but if you truly love someone you fight for them." Carter says and looks longingly into Marlee's. They share a quick little kiss on the lips and move over America to sit down.
We talk about the past, future, and the baby for a while before the bells start chiming. The wedding is about to commence. For some weird reason Kriss wanted bells to signal that the wedding is about it start. I go up and stand at my place on the alter and behind me are my groomsmen. Of course there is Jermey, Aspen, and some people from the staff I have gotten to know. If it weren't for America I wouldn't have even payed attention to our staff, and look at us now. I couldn't have better friends. Well maybe I could have better friends than Aspen. But that would be for another time.
The priest starts saying a few words like "thank you for coming blah blah blah we appreciate it blah blah blah blah." I mean let's be honest this is probably the biggest wedding of the year. If you are invited, of course you will probably go.
I keep taking glances at America and find her looking right at me. Whenever I catch her starring she suddenly looks down or to my left or right. I couldn't stop thinking how much I wish it was America walking down the wedding aisle instead of Kriss. I still didn't have a plan for what I was going to do because of the new information that Kriss is a northern rebel.
Finally the priest stops talking and the wedding goes on. The music starts playing and the bridesmaids start to walk down the aisle. Kriss also said that she didn't want to have my groomsmen take away the spotlight from her "drop dead gorgeous" friends. I being me said alright and let her have the spotlight. Finally when all eight of her bridesmaids made it down the aisle the double doors open and there she stands. The Northern Rebel herself, Kriss. She has this big gown that is way to puffy and why to many sparkles that are made from real diamonds.
The tiara that sits upon her head glistens in the lights and the crown looks bigger than my Mother's. The vail hides her face well and she's looking straight at me. I take a look over at America and she's the only one sitting in the standing audience, she doesn't even look up and just looks down at her nails. Right then I knew for a fact that she should be the one that I am about to marry, not Kriss. I look at Kriss and she spots my line of sight and what I was looking at. Or should I say who. Knowing Kriss she is probably giving America dagger eyes and glaring at her. America doesn't take notice though.
Kriss starts walking faster and faster down the aisle to get to me. At last she is at the base of the alter and she is already picking up her dress to make her way up the stairs. Her dad just leaves her to do her thing and he sits back down. She soon makes it up to the place which I am standing and she stands across from me.
"Marry us now!" Kriss hisses at the Priest. He looks at her and then looks at me. I nod slowly and take her hands.
While the priest was saying a few more words I had to ask "are you a northern rebel?" I asked quietly looking down.
"No. Not anymore. After I entered the selection to win your heart I told them that it was over and I wouldn't do it anymore. They threatened me and told me they were going to kill me, but that's when I knew that you are he one I want. Maxon you changed my life and I am forever grateful." She told me quietly.
"So let's get this wedding started with!" The priest finally finished.
