"what the fuck do you mean you went to the carnival with, wesley?" ian says angrily, his eyebrows furrowed.

it's fifth period, my only class with ian. i just told him everything that's happened, and obviously he's not taking it lightly.

i sigh, covering my face with my hands, "i know it was a bad idea."

he scoots his chair closer to me, and whispers, "what about, matt? you just can't go back to wesley."

"i'm not gonna go back to him." i take my hands off my face, and avoid eye contact with ian.

"you can't even look at me in the eye, which means your ass is lying." he crosses him arms with a face full of disappointment.

"i made a promise to, matt, that i wouldn't go back to wesley," i start explaining, "but, i still kinda want him back into my life." i say quietly, hoping that ian won't scold me again.

"he doesn't deserve a second chance, everlee. he's an asshole and he's gross." he says.

"ian and everlee, i have an announcement to make so if you both could pause your little conversation, then that would be great." our teacher interrupts our conversation.

everyone stares at us, as we both adjust ourselves uncomfortably in our seats. our teacher gives us an innocent smile, and continues, "as you all know, our senior trip is coming very soon."

the senior trip is basically all the seniors going to the woods, sleeping in shitty cabins, and getting endless mosquito bites. no one is excited for it nor does anyone want to go, but it's a good way to miss school. and the seniors host an event every year to help pay off the trip.

"the event we're hosting to help pay it off is after school, and i'm glad a lot of you signed up to help," she paces back and forth the room, "especially to the ones who signed up to participate in the date auction."

our teacher picks up a clipboard from her desk, "these are the people who signed up to be in the date auction." she begins reading off names.

i relax in my seat, and i look over at, ian, who looks really worried, "are you okay?" i ask.

"well, do you remember back in january when-" he gets interrupted.

"and, everlee evans." our teacher says.

i start to panic, "i'm sorry, but i didn't sign up to participate in the auction."

"it looks like you did," she flips the clipboard over to face me, and it shows my name on the sign up sheet, "sorry, sweetie, you did sign up." she goes back to sit at her desk.

"what the fuck just happened?" i whisper over to, ian.

"like i was saying, remember when i dared you to put your name on the sign up sheet, because we thought some kid put it up in the hall just to be funny?" he weakly smiles, "well, turns out it's real!"

"this is great. now we'll get to see who would pay more money for me to go on a date with them." i say sarcastically.

"that doesn't sound bad to me," he shrugs, "we'll see who's willing to break their piggy bank for you." he chuckles.

"no one is gonna bid on me, ian."

"you sure?" he wiggles his eyebrows, i already know he's referring to matt.

"oh please, he wouldn't even bid fifty cents on me," i flip on my hood, and sink into my seat, "he can barely stand breathing around me."

"we'll see about that."
