it's exactly seven, and i pace around my room, waiting for matt to pick me up. he does live next door so it shouldn't take that long.
i'm on the phone with, ian, once again arguing about matt, "i'm sure that we're just going as friends."
ian scoffs, "but he specifically said it was a date."
"then why a date? what the hell is he trying to say?" i ask.
he sighs disappointingly, "girl, at this point he's trying to show you that he likes you. maybe he'll even make a move tonight?"
i start to freak out, and begin to pace even faster around my room, "what if he does? what do i do?"
i hear him chuckle, "listen, if you like him then i say go for it."
"but, you already know i'm interested in-"
"bitch, you better not say wesley!" he yells.
i wince, "we're just reconnecting right now, it's nothing serious."
"you know i just want you to be happy, but this isn't the way to go!"
"i'm gonna trust my gut, ian. i really do feel like things can go differently this time." i explain.
he raises his voice, "well, your gut better be right!"
i hear a honk outside, "he's here, i'll talk to you later." i walk out my bedroom door.
"good luck!" ian, quickly says before hanging up.
i rush down the stairs, and go out the front door. i see, matt, in his car, waiting for me to get inside. once i am, i greet him, "hey, matt!" i put on my seatbelt.
"hey, everlee." he drives down the road.
"so, what do you have planned?" i ask.
"well, we're going to the park and having a picnic there." he points to the backseat, and i see a picnic basket and a blanket.
fuck, now i'm starting to get nervous. i shouldn't be, because i'm sure this isn't anything serious. right?
"i know that you like chocolate chip cookies, so i tried my best to make them for you." he sounds nervous, he won't even look at me.
"how did you know that?"
"you're always eating them. like at the valentine's dance, your plate was filled with cookies. and even at my birthday party, i saw you grabbing a handful of cookies from the snack table." he says.
"wow, you're really observant aren't you?" i say surprised.
"wow, you're really talkative aren't you?" matt mimics my voice, "just save your talking until we get to the park." he still keeps his focus on the road.
after a couple more minutes, we finally arrive to the park. we get out the car, as matt gets out the picnic basket and the blanket from the backseat.
he doesn't say anything, and walks towards a pond. i follow him, and once we're close enough, he neatly lays out the blanket. he sits the picnic basket on top of it, and gestures for me to sit with him.
