i almost choked on my own saliva when i saw them both in the same room. my mom must've let, wesley, in. that was a big mistake.
"what are you doing here?" matt, looks at him surprised.
"i came to see, everlee. we were supposed to meet at a party last night, but i never showed up." wesley responds, and he crosses his arms.
"so, you went to the party with him? are you being serious?" matt, raises his voice at me.
i smile nervously, "i have some explaining to do, don't i?"
"and why are you here?" wesley, jumps in.
"she was wasted so i took her home, but you wouldn't know that since you stood her up." matt snaps.
wesley, rolls his eyes, "that's why i'm here to check up on her."
"you're a little late on that, aren't you?" matt says.
"wesley, can i have a moment with him?" i ask him, trying to break the tension.
"fuck that, i'm leaving," he says while opening my door, "good thing you were just a backup plan." he mutters under his breath, and slams the door shut.
my heart sinks, and i feel my eyes beginning to water. i can't believe i was that gullible.
the room fills up with silence, as matt is just staring down at his feet. he looks like he's thinking hard about something.
i stand up in front of him, "matt, please let me explain." my voice cracks from me trying to hide my tears.
"explain what?" he says quietly, not making eye contact, "that you lied to me?"
tears roll down my cheek, "it wasn't supposed to be like this."
i reach for his hand, but he pulls it away. he looks at me, and his eyes are red and watery.
his expression shows he's hurt, "why would you pick him over me?" matt says, backing away slowly from me.
i look at him confused, "what do you mean?"
he groans, "do i have to write it out on my fucking face, everlee?" his bottom lip quivers, "i like you. i like you more than anything, but you really can't take a hint."
i cover my face with my hands, scared to even face him, "why didn't you just tell me?" my voice is muffled.
"i'm not used to admitting things like this." his voice is hoarse
i take my hands off my face, "i'm sorry that i didn't notice, i really am."
he shakes his head, "no, just forget it. i'm leaving." he walks towards the door.
i grab his arm, and try to hold him back, "please, we have to talk about this." i beg.
he pauses, and turns around, "i didn't do anything but try to help you, yet you still went to wesley." he uses his free hand to wipe his face.
matt continues, "don't talk to me, and don't count on me for anything. i don't want anything to do with you anymore." he says.
i whine, "please, matt, let me explain myself."
"bye, everlee." he yanks his arm back, and rushes out the door.
i fucked up big time.
